Author Topic: 'Nostalrius' widely recognised World of Warcraft private server taken down.  (Read 5642 times)

Cataclysm (pre-nerf) was the last time I did end game raiding. I really enjoyed Firelands and DS, so did my guild.
Bruh, they focused all on the leveling and about 20% on endgame. While the leveling was fun, and Firelands was aight (solely because of the non-linear layout and some unique bosses), DS was stuff.
CAN WE PLEASE TALK ABOUT NOSTALRIUS
Don't know if someone mentioned this, but a vanilla WoW dev said that if the petition gets 200k sigs, he will personally send it to Mike Morhaime.

Blizzard lost profits because of the server.
A lot of people only played WoW because of that server. Blizzard wasn't losing any profit from those people because they weren't going to subscribe anyway.
A lot of those people would pay for a vanilla WoW server though, so Blizzard it partly at fault for its "lost profit"

While some of them may not have, plenty of them could have. Truth is we don't know

It's not abandonware, most of the content is still in Retail WoW. You can still play retail WoW and join a classic raiding group.

It's theft.
It's illegal.
So because some people made a server for others to enjoy means they're stealing blizzards money? Alright.

Still using blizzards property, and letting people play blizzard's game for free, regardless of what version. Good news is that the petition got 200k sigs.

to be honest, if blizzard cared that much about losing money to the server, they should have just made their own so they could charge for it
if they shut down the version of the game those people wanted to play, its not like they are going to just give up and go play the latest expansion

So because some people made a server for others to enjoy means they're stealing blizzards money? Alright.
I think people don't understand why private servers are theft.

World of Warcraft is a subscription-based game. This means you are required to pay a recurring fee to have access to the game. It has been like that since it was released.

Offering the game through a third-party server is theft. It simply does not matter if it's an earlier version of the game. People are loving crybabies. Stop trying to justify it.

I really don't understand why Blizzard wont add legacy servers for the different expansions, I would happily pay for an extra subscription just to play some of the Vanilla/BC/WotLK again.

So are you saying private servers shouldn't be allowed even if the players did subscribe to the game?
Also World of Warcraft isn't completely subscription based, you can play for free up to level 20. Do you feel that playing the game from level 0-20 is stealing or something?
Would private servers be fine if they had a cap of 20?

You sound like a 12 year old who doesn't understand the world.

Level 1-20 is considered the trial. Also yes, if people are subscribed they still shouldn't be allowed to play on private servers because they are still illegal. If it was officially hosted by Blizzard though, that's another story.

*trial
I think you'd be surprised at how many things in your life that you've done are "illegal".
A lot of the bullstuff that are in EULAs are created to cover the ass of the company that created the software in case something goes wrong.
Blizzard just chose to use this ass covering to smother something that didn't harm them in the slightest "just because"

I'm surprised you're taking the "they shouldn't be allowed to play" argument while you've pirated content before.

You sound like a 12 year old who doesn't understand the world.
No, honestly, you do. You took the point I made and completely contorted it. You should pay more attention in school and work on your reading comprehension skills.

Nice rebuttal to my points. Try harder next time.

Okay, just because you're subscribed to the game doesn't mean you have the right to disregard Blizzard's rules, so there's my rebuttal to your first point.

The free trial is not even on a private server, how is this relevant?

It wouldn't matter if private servers had a level cap of 20. It's still a private server

It's illegal.

You sound really upset that the server got removed, but you should've expected it. Did you play it? The best thing I can tell the people that played the server is to sign the petition to get the official throwback servers.

The whole point of my post was about the point of your post being that private servers are theft. You made no mention of any of Blizzard's rules at all.
I was merely debunking your points that private servers are theft. If you pay the subscription and play on a private server, it's not theft.
If you play the trial on a private server, it's not theft.
You're piggybacking off of Nymph's actually valid points to try to save face.

Anyway, I've never played WoW. Ever. I only ever heard about this private server after JonTron made a video on it.
