How absolutely marvelous, two players finding themselves in the same thread on the same day. I can't begin to imagine what the odds must be for this to happen.

This is a good mod:

Not sure if it conflicts with the other mod that increases the amount of freighters, but it looks like it increases it anyway lol

Does that not constitute marketing?

Do you know what marketing is? In 2014 he said you could play with friends. In 2015 he said on the rare occasion of crossing paths with someone, you'd be able to see them. In early 2016 he said that there's not a large focus on multiplayer, but there's a "sense" that you're in the universe with other players. Before release, he said there's no multiplayer. There's a clear progression of development here. It doesn't even matter which of these interviews you heard, you're still going to end up at the steam store page that says "single-player"

Paying for a segment on a television show to advertise your product to the masses?

Are you saying him being on colbert isn't marketing?

Wasn't advertising a product. He was talking about a prototype he was working on and what he planned to do with it.

No

Yeah you're right, it was much more of a public service announcement. I'm sure it was scheduled as part of their un-development progression like you said.

The thing is Sean dodged the question after release, which makes me doubt his honesty.

I'm honestly not sure why people are complaining about multiplayer anyway.

Like yeah, I feel like the game is empty, boring, and repetitive.

But seeing someone else experiencing the same thing isn't going to make the game more fun.

What you're describing here is a linear progression from 'features' to 'no-features'. That is not development, that's like devolution.

I'm not so sure. Just having chat and seeing another player is enough to introduce a social aspect to the game. I've lost literally hours of my life jumping around in blockland doing nothing but chatting with other people.

$60
well yeah I didn't buy it and wouldn't unless it was $10 lol. I'm just saying that even that would have added value.

Yeah I mean I can't say I find it surprising that Hello Games, a company with 1 other game under their belt (that game being a stuffty 2.5D racing game) failed to deliver on some promises they made multiple years ago when they set out to make their ambitious dream project which turned into one of the most anticipated games of 2016. I didn't care because I never gave a forget about the multiplayer that WAS promised in the first place (which was described as rare and shallow), but I can see why people would hold it against Sean for not delivering in the end.

But it was clear by release that the devolution had occurred, people had time to refund their pre-orders if the lack of multiplayer meant that much to them. So the whole "zomg he lied" garbage that was perpetuated by others is a step too far.

Aren't there like a bunch of other features that were advertised that didn't make the final cut? Did they all fall under this same 'devolution' of features?

See but like, that's only one of the promises that they didn't fulfill. Plus, going back quietly on features that were publicized and hyped-up all over the media does not properly adjust the expectations of players. If the developers made these things widely known and communicated effectively with their customers, you wouldn't have people all over the internet complaining about unfulfilled promises and lackluster development.

This is one of those situations where the 'customer is always right' idiom comes into play. You cannot have a business where problems in customer relations and revenue are blamed on the customers being incompetent.

and also one of the most disappointing games of 2016
