Author Topic: Honestly, forget rap music.  (Read 12169 times)

oh no people are enjoying things cant have that :^( ))
You know what I hate? People who act like listening to dadrock and topcharters from the 70s-90s means they have a better taste in music. Like wow good job starfish you listen to music everyone else had decided was good. forget discovering new bands and actually making opinions.
also this
dadrock (and dadmetal) may be my fav genre but you dont see me getting pretentious over it

fr though OP how are you going to talk about backing tracks and lyrics and not listen to Tool?
Hands down the best rock band of the 90's

99% of the time when people make these topics it's because they only hear what is on the radio. They make no effort to delve in and find the good stuff and immediately write it all off as stuff.
exactly my point, nowadays barley anyone knows Nas or Mobb deep or Pete Rock and CL. I listen to old rap because it's always better and has more meaning.

Filthy Frank made a video about this and it's so true some people honestly don't look at new music at all I mean there actually is really good new music that I enjoy like "Lean on" by Major Lazer, "Love me again" by John Newman, "Habits" by Tove lo I mean that isn't the only music on the planet and anyone that says that they were "Born in the wrong generation" can think that but it doesn't change anyone's opinion. This isn't a communist world (unless you're in China). I think I'm in the wrong generation sometimes but I don't go up to people and say "forget YOU WE SHOULD BE SMOKING WEED AND BEING HIPPY'S LIKE IN THE 60'S YOU loving CUNTS" I wouldn't do that stuff at all, I'd keep it to myself as it's my personal thinking (Not saying I'm a hippy just an example)

op is the biggest idiot ive seen this month

just watch this for once https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZgJyhKEZ8QU it debunks your entire post

The College Dropout is arguably one of the best rap albums out there, listen to it.
Then when youre done, listen to ANY Kendrick Lamar track, listen to more Kanye, Listen to Tyler, listen to Earl, listen to Drake, listen to Madvillain, listen to The Avalanches, listen to Childish Gambino

then do it again, but dont just listen, understand how they work, what makes them work, only then will you realize what an idiot you are lmao.
generalizing music, loving disgraceful

also mentioning gorillaz as an excuse, really? please. they have rap too.
The college dropout is an amazing album but I wouldn't say it's the best, if anyone wants to get into rap or listen to a good rap album I'd say go with The infamous, Illmatic, The main ingredient or Graduation. In fact Graduation by Kanye is possibly the best album there is but I'd say my personal favorite is the infamous

I generally don't like rap but at the same time I never believed that '99% of it is stuff'
there's obviously going to be a portion that you'd consider stuff, and the other portion which is good

Tbh it's extremely rare to hear stereotypical rap lyrics in any other genre besides hip-hop

Stuff like MF Doom, Childish Gambino, Gym Class Heroes is good but aids like Lil Yatchy and Kanye is stuff

Fixed

i don't give a stuff about what the lyrics are saying (save for songs like en livstid i krig, where it's actually a bit poetic)
i care about the actual music part of a song
if the voice doesn't contribute like an instrument, and the song is flat and boring without the voice, it's a bad song

rawhide is a good example of lyrics with no linguistic seriousness that actually contribute to the song (not because it's "dadrock", but because it's an easy reference)

x gon give it to ya is an example of rap where the lyrics don't go on autistic tangents and the song itself can stand independently  if you remove the lyrics

to everyone whining about what this quote whines about:

op isn't saying he was born in the wrong generation, nor is he saying classical and dadrock are the only good forms of music

Lil yachty and kanye are so much better than loving childish gambino its a crime to even compare them to something so basic

All these rappers have their richards out for themselves, bitches and hoes and forgettons of money, and the only reason I repeated what everyone else has said is because these loving rappers repeat everything that they say. Over and over. Point me to a song where these topics are NEVER brought up once. I challenge you.
Not sure if these count, because the mention isn't boasting about them, but check these lyrics out, I guess.
Nas - I Can
Soul Position - Hand-Me-Downs
A Tribe Called Quest - Scenario

I completely agree with this. stuff like this is just a shortcut to developing an actual taste in music.

Just to clarify, there's nothing wrong with that music. But it's the default genre for these garbage people, mostly because lots of them are young people who had their stuffty dads show them the "real music"

The thing about hip hop is that it's just another genre of music. In the end there is a lot of generic filler rap that meets the stereotypical criteria of "forget bitches, get money, sell drugs, kill people" but most of it doesn't take off, because that on its own isn't very interesting. I guess an exception to that would be if it's produced really well or has a good ass beat. Panda by Desiigner doesn't have a lot of emotional depth to it but it has a good ass beat and decent lyricism and rhythm, and that's why it exploded to the top of the charts when it got noticed.

Anyone saying "most of rap is bad" or "99% of it is stuff" has a worthless opinion, because they clearly haven't actually experienced enough rap to say that. Even if rap has a greater "stuff to good" ratio (Perhaps because more young people look to rap and hip hop as a way out of poverty, than, say, country or metal) that isn't a mark against the medium itself, because anyone worth listening to that there's more quality rap than one can listen to in a lifetime, and the same can be said about most big genres like that.
