wiithe easiest of the consoles to softmod, the wii allows you to do a lot. there's a media center, being able to read dvds (specific models only), reviving the nintendo wi-fi servers, and lots, lots more.
let me explain since this doesn't need a guide link.
this does not work with wii u's vwii mode:
1. ensure you're on 4.3U/E/J/K (you should be), and you have a functioning SD card plugged into your PC (this is required)
2. go to your internet settings, then look for your mac address
3. go here:
https://please.hackmii.com/4. select your version/region, and press your mac address. leave the hackmii installer checked.
5. verify the captcha. wire cut doesn't matter.
6. put the files from the zip it downloads onto the root of your SD card.
7. put the SD card into your wii.
8. go to the wii message board, then move back a day. you should see a red letter with a bomb in it. click it.
9. congrats. you're in the hackmii installer. install the homebrew channel, exit, and enjoy sweet homebrew. find other resources on your own.

3dsthe 3ds is the ultimate console for homebrew. you can run lots of homebrew, clean up notifications, improve how it runs, there's a lot, and i mean a LOT. but it's complicated, and requires quite a bit of time to setup. take patience, and you'll have a lot of fun with the aftermath.
this is the only good softmod guide. do not use anything else

if there are, let me know so i can correct them.
enjoy!
