Author Topic: how do you guys think we could get more people to play blockland?  (Read 6354 times)

so you're blaming the lack of good servers on... blockland not using lua??

There are plenty of good server ideas that are possible without much scripting knowledge.  I really think it's just a lack of server retention more than anything.
now imagine how much more is possible when you have a scripting language that people actually use and you don't restrict certain features for god-knows-why

there are more problems then just those 2 i listed as well, like the current building system is hard to pick up and play (fantastic once you master it though.)
but there are fantastic systems as well that are incredibly simple yet incredibly useful: like the eventing system.

so i'm not blaming it on blockland not using lua per say, but more like hard to pick up (the building system) in some aspects and hard to master (torquescript and the bullstuff restrictions) in other aspects. overall making the entire game hard to pick up and keep playing.

we could start WW3 and tell the news it started here on the Blockland Forums and then we'd get some publicity

however i never said it'd be good publicity

u know that port i think made lua for blockland right

all publicity is good publicity man

The only reason to keep playing the game is the servers. The best thing we could do to breath life into the game would be to spend time making interesting gamemodes, builds, DMs, etc. There are still lots of great creators in the community, they just need to be rallied into doing community projects.

Also the forum is pretty hostile and politically polarized and not much else. A few steps towards changing that would be to have Lord Tony banned, and for everyone else to consciously change their behavior to be more positive and less divisive.

OT I think all we need to do really is to come up with more gamemodes and promote them over ones already found on several other games

it's worked with knife TDMs and grapple-knife TDMs, fort wars, and several other modes that we pioneered, we just need to keep doing what works

also server creators and developers need to stop worrying that people won't visit or use their stuff and make them regardless of outcome
if people don't have content to enjoy then they won't use it, as opposed to the alternative where they may not use it

tony provokes literally everyone thus creating hostility

lord tony is only bad if you let him get to you, ignore him and hes literally harmless

"the bully can't hurt you if you don't cry"
lmao that's bullstuff, it's happened before where literally everyone ignored tony
he started talking to himself while harassing random people---he sticks around

99% chance we wouldn't be sitting here today with no content if we had those 2 things in a decent time frame.
There is plenty of content, wtf are you on about?

There is plenty of content, wtf are you on about?

wow how did I miss that

yeah seriously what the forget are you talking about?  no content?  have you checked the add-ons board recently?

i wasn't hostile though? i think hes just one of the driving forces behind hostility on this forum, even though he is only directly mildly hostile

lord tony is only bad if you let him get to you, ignore him and hes literally harmless
yeah but we will NEVER get to a point where people unilaterally ignore him. he's always going to get responses and stuff up off-topic. and it inevitably forgets everything

wow how did I miss that

i agree, the problem definitely isn't the lack of content. if anything, it's the lack of FOCUS to the content. with a community this small we're never going to have enough content that you can just throw a bunch of mods together to create almost anything, in order to create more interesting/diverse experiences you really need a team of people, and you probably need the modder(s) to cater what they do to specifically your vision if that makes sense

the gamemode thing was probably a step in the right direction to adding more modularity to blockland mods tho

ok let me rephrase it
lack of meaningful content

a solid 66% of addons in the addons section is tiny TINY little things

it's hard to do either quantity nor building teams to build quality because you have the torquescript/that one modelling program i cant remember the name of roosterblock.

also why is this is in off topic when it's related to Blockland

what, you expect every other addon to be some bigass revolutionary mindlovingly amazing setup? it'd be awful if that were the case, i feel like over half of them would get ignored due to people being focused on something else
