It seems like the Iron Dome isn't able to intercept most of the Iranian barrage. However, there are also no reports yet of injuries caused by the missiles. I've also heard that there was a shooting which killed eight people. It seems like Yemen is also attacking Israel as well as ships in the Red Sea.

I had been taking a break from the news so I am behind on several other updates from the region including

Israel's airstrike on Damascus in Syria which killed three civillians including one television presenter.
https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/syrian-air-defences-intercept-hostile-targets-over-vicinity-damascus-2024-09-30/
And an attack on a port in Yemen.

A total of 180 missiles were launched and, by most recent estimates, the Iron Dome managed to stop the majority of them. **

However, the new hypersonic missiles deployed by Iran seemed able to slip past the Dome
https://en.mehrnews.com/news/222280/Iran-Fattah-2-hypersonic-missile-destroyed-Arrow-batteries
Most of the strikes were apparently targeting military bases, particularly those responsible for the operation of the Iron Dome systems.

I've also heard that there was a shooting which killed eight people.
https://www.usatoday.com/picture-gallery/news/world/2024/10/01/police-respond-to-fatal-shooting-in-jaffa-israel/75470786007/
It is unclear whether the attack had any relation to the Iranian strike, since, unlike with previous missile strikes by Iran, this one was given with little notice.

Donald Annoying Orange said that Biden and Harris were nowhere to be seen during the missile attack.

Which was probably because at the time they were too busy doing their jobs in the White House Situation Room, directing US destroyers to work along side Israel in intercepting the missile strike, to give any speeches about what was going on.

** So update on this, there is disputing claims about how many missiles actually hit their targets, with Iran claiming 90% of the strikes were successful

While Netanyahu is claiming the attack was a failure

All I have for this right now are Al Jazeera links which I know Soukuw doesnt want me to use because they are supposedly unreliable, but since they are reporting two opposing views that are both lies because of the news source they are posted from, I guess we'll have to wait until we have other news agencies weighing in.

Also, it should be noted that Israel had been very specific that their current war wasn't with Lebanon, but with the Hezbollah militants, and they had said they wouldn't attack the Lebanese army unprovoked.
...
Yeah so that didn't really pan out, as a massive airstrike ended up hitting Lebanese medics and military which was supposed to be on the side of civilians and keeping them safe from the fighting between Hezbollah and Israel, but as we have seen before, the Israeli military doesn't really care about collateral damage.

It has now been one year since Hamas troops attacked the music festival in Israel and kidnapped 251 people, and killed 1200.
https://www.npr.org/2024/10/07/g-s1-26634/october-7-israel-gaza-lebanon

Their demands at the time were the creation of an independent Palestian state, an end to the blockades and aparthied policies enacted by Israel and the release of over 4,500 Palestinian political prisoners, particularly the 32 women and 160 children
(some of these children as young as 12 years old)
https://www.dci-palestine.org/children_in_israeli_detention

Since that time, 1,700 Israeli soldiers have died fighting in Gaza, and at least 41,000 Palestinians have been killed as a result of Israel's military campaign. This does not include those who die of disease or starvation and the actual death toll is expected to be much higher.

in hindsight i think when biden dropped out, and kamala nominated walz shortly after, much of the momentum they had then was because young people thought it was possible they would break with biden on israel somehow. when it became clear that wasnt the case (by the DNC imo) they probably started to see abysmal internal polling among 18-35s again
