Author Topic: Dwarf Fortress  (Read 64466 times)

I finally got that ambush I was paranoid about.

No damage yet, I have full stocks of food and supplies and I do not need the the surface to survive so I will simply close the door(lol cant get past my door) and produce large serrated disk traps and war dogs. When they come in I will unleash hell on them and use their weapons(once dead) to kill future invaders.

Its a group of crossbowmen lead by a bowman, any suggestions?

My fortress is doing good, Ive got two war dogs guarding the entrance. Ive got 6 recruits. Ive got puppies that have ripped thieves to shreds, and Ive got loads of iron. Im using the iron for my weapons, shields, and front door.

Oh forget crossbowmen.

Yeah just let them come in, you Can't fight them outside, otherwise you will undoubtedly suffer some casualties.

just let them walk on top of a couple traps, set up StoneFall traps in your entrances, they're fast and easy to setup and can give you a pretty big advantage since they heavily injure enemies (and stun them too).

Also Magma Creatures (like demons) don't respawn. After you kill/capture them all the magma becomes completely safe to use, unless you flood your fortress with it.

Ok Here's what i've currently done.

First i'll explain to you what i did and i'll post pictures through imageshack.

So i restarted and decided this time to build close to a Mountain, so i dug into the Mountain with two miners, made like 7-8 rooms so far everything is inside currently working on the dinning room but my stockpiles are good inside and stuff.

THE HUGE PROBLEM, WAYYYY TO MUCH STONE! I have way to much! I have no idea what to do with it all it's just sitting in the hallways and stuff how the hell do i get rid of it.

See the photo bellow,

As you can see theres stone everywhere! I dont know how to get rid of it!

As you can see there, theres even more rock everywhere... i put a stockpile outside aswell hoping to get rid of some rocks which isnt helping... Got a butcher workplace mason and carpentry bellow there, Wood and Furniture stockpile to right of that...

So what i need help with now is knowing what to do now? Seriously im lost what should i do?

Aswell how do you move furniture already placed and delete stockpiles?

Make a craftsdwarf workshop, a mason's workshop, and a mechanics workshop

all of these workshops use stone to create objects

for optimal stone removal:

use the craftsdwarf's workshop to make stone crafts, than sell it off to other dwarves with the trade depot every season

Well the merchants just came and said i need a trade depot...

Aswell im dead outta food, i have a hunter and a fisher but still need food...

One important thing you should know, Stone does NOT impair your dwarves in ANY way. All it does is make your fort look messy, but the dwarves don't mind. They like rocks.

Trade Depots are built by pressing "b" then "D", but you might not have anything to trade with the caravan at the moment
Build underground farms, try to find Soil (clay, silt, loam, sands, etc.)

To solve that stone problem I just do this:
1) Dig a channel off the side of a cliff.
2) Press 'I' or whatever key you have for Zones.
3) Put your cursor on the channel and drag it to another tile your dwarves can stand on.
4) Hit enter and make it a dump zone.
5) Select the stones you wish to dump by pressing 'K' or whatever key you have for look.
6) Press 'D' to dump the stone, if there are multiple stones on the list then scroll down using '-' or '+' or whatever scroll keys you have and then press 'D'.
7) Your dwarves should carry the stone to your dump zone and drop it off of the cliff, no need to worry about it anymore.

You may need more than one hunter/fisher. When my fort was dying of hunger, EVERYONE was either put into farming or fishing. This meant roughly 6 or 7 dwarves each.

When my fort was dying of hunger I set up farms in the white sand layers I found.

Now I have 500? Plant.

I purchased a White Sand Block from a caravan, it was used in some artifact.

My problem is mostly getting my brewer to do his job.

(This is retelling of events that happened last night. Maybe I should open a different topic or something to log my fortress's events?)
Praise the gods! One of my dwarves has become possessed! Hopefully we will have the materials he requires to produce an artifact for us!

Upon further inspection, it appears to be my cheese maker, who has taken over a craftsdwarf workshop and begun a mysterious construction!

My cheese maker's grand artifact has been completed after much work, it is
Bibarsebir, "the Drab Hide", a turtle shell puzzlebox
This is a turtle shell puzzlebox. ... It is decorated with turtle shell. This object is adornedwith hanging rings of Chalk and menaces with spikes of turtle shell and Ruby. On the item is an image of a demon and dwarves in turtle shell. The demon is surrounded by the dwarves.

Prehaps this means we shall stumble upon a demon? In the mean time it is a very valueable item(55,200) and we shall treasure it!

Also I had a thirst issue which was pissing me off so I ended up flooding a large portion of my base with 2/7 water. No one was injured.

Kinda got bored already....

I always seem to run outta food eventually or my Fisher keeps fishing turtles and they sit around and die and thats it.

Then nothing seems to happen... i've restarted like 4 times just because i get bored.

Like i get to this step where there doesnt seem to be anything else to do, more like i don't know what else to do but ya...

Make farms.
