I still don't get this whole fishing and fishery thing same as hunting and butchery....

I don't understand what im supposed to do with the building... Catch live land animal? Butcher dead animal? Or some other option

same as the fishery, but for the fishery you need someone to be a fisher to do it, but they only fish instead!!!

Basically, dwarves with Fishing skill will automatically find a pond/river/brook and start fishing. You can specify where you want them to fish with Zones " i ", and make a fishing zone. To keep them fishing in that zone and not accross the map somewhere you can go in Orders " o " and then select Fishing in Fishing Zone Only in the Zone orders menu.

Hunting dwarves will locate any animal on the map and chase it to snap it's neck. This is automatic as well, as long as the Hunting job is enabled.

That's one way of keeping them around your fishery. The big problem is that dwarves who have the Fishing/Hunting jobs allowed will make those jobs priorities over everything else, especially in the case of Hunting where they won't even bother in finding a nice bed to sleep in. That's why you should have a dedicated Butcher and a dedicated Fish Dissector, because the other hunting/fishing dwarves are too busy catching more stuff to process their catch. So instead of just 1 dwarf to hunt/fish, you need an extra dawrf to butcher/clean their catch.

On the embark screen put skills on ambusher for the hunter and on fisherdwarf for a fisher if you have one, it is almost a must to have a farmer with the skills grower and herbalist. Don't worry if you don't get farming and room creation, I didn't figure them out for a while.

I've made a small pool with ramps out for training swimming, is it possible to force some dwarves into the pool?

Place a meeting zone into the pool using the zones menu.

If it's depth 4 or 5 it'll train swimming.

Ahahah oh god oh god lolololol

I was planning on digging out an entire layer of the world. I give my dwarves Proficient Miner, bring a bunch of picks, and here goes...

It's called Greatestmines.

Oh my god this game is fricking PSYCHIC.

EDIT: I hit damp stone and they're all about to drown  :cookieMonster:

It knows... :tinfoil:

I finally figured out how to mine, and I thought it be a fun idea to expand my water sources, I failed to barracade it off in time, I had to leave my fortress. :(

Also, When diging a well, should I have to water source the layer below the well, or the layer under that?

Gah I keep starting a fortress reading an online guide, then getting frustrated at all the different keys the guide trys to introduce me to.

Gah I got stuck on trying to build up a dwarf army. I must concentrate more, and I need to build a well.

lool 10000th post. Just noticed.

Just use the tab Key, to see what you need, only a few of those you need to know by heart.

Like < and > change layer, is the one you need to know the best.\

edit, Also, how do I change screen size, mine does not fit on my screen.

Oh use the minimize button up top, just keep minimizing it and re-opening till it takes shape.

The cursor might be invisible but you can still hit ti!
