Dwarf Fortress

The wiki and the Mayday tileset can help a lot for learning the game at first, although most tutorials will use the basic ASCII.

You could try getting a good Tileset to help you decipher what's going on. That's what I did and everything is pretty easy to figure out now.

Also here's a pic of my current fortress with a massive Magma Reservoir carved out in the north hill. Magma will be pumped in soon.

Edit: God damnit Anti-cop beat me to it :/

This is fun but so confusing at first.

Bronze Colossi leave a masterpeice bronze statue behind when they die, also you could tame it and hope that a dwarf will eventually adopt it if they like it. Otherwise, it'll be a good defence animal.

Holy stuff, I just caught a bronze colossus in one of my cage traps. What the hell am I supposed to do with him now?
Did it kill anyone before hand? If it did then taming it would be a very bad idea and I would suggest trying to kill it somehow.

If it didn't kill any of your dwarves though then try to tame it.

If you kill the colossus you get a heug statue amirite?

Just a masterpiece bronze statue, nothing a legendary blacksmith can't make hundreds of.

My fortress is coming along nicely. Once my dwarves finish moving the stuff from the wagon, I'll begin farming.

No, it only managed to break my trade depot before it walked straight into a cage trap. But how do I tame the thing? It doesn't show up in the list at the kennels. And yes, the dungeon master is here.

You can't tame Bronze Colossus's, the most you can get out of it is throwing it into a pit for enemies or killing it for a masterwork bronze statue.

Ok, I need to know this, If I create a building(I mean an outdoor building), if I add walls where the entrance would be, would they not be able to escape, it seems like a better idea than killing off a dwarf so the traders are traped under-ground?

That works too, but really no matter how you are trapping them, you can avoid losing a dwarf by making sure to do it in the right way.

Also afaik the traders don't care how they die, they blame it on you.  Except maybe if they are directly killed by a monster.

I didn't finish in time anyway, I need to pay more attention to the game.

Edit: what should I do with a deplomat, he didn't seem to ask for anything, nor is he doing anything, just pacing the same path...

I'm thinking of putting the colossus cage outside and linking it to a lever, so when the goblins inevitably show up I can just release him, have him kill them all, and then laugh as he stupidly walks into another cage trap. Good idea or a terrible idea that could turn into a hilariously bad tragedy?

Wow wtf lazy dwarf much

He fell asleep at the spot where his bed was about to be placed...

EDIT: wow wtf he was CARRYING the bed...
