Relevant to raising bridges discussion;

<Alenth>  oops
<Alenth> I flung someones pet dog into my moat
<Alenth> :(
<Lolwut> Good thing dogs can swim.
<Alenth> not in magma

How does one get rock?
Dig into rock by designating it. Keep in mind that most maps have surface layers of dirt or sand or whatnot, so you may have to dig down a bit.

Ok, how should I trap my Traders, or should I remove my trade depot, which will work better?

Easiest way is to build an underground depot and cave it in when traders arrive to it :P

A better yet harder way would be to flood them with water (not magma, trust me that doesn't work very well)

How do I do that?

I removed my ramps towards outward, problem, I don't have a way to get the miner out...

edit: I'll leave the miner down there, let him die, and use an immagrant that has no trade skills to become the new miner.

edit2: Crap, game crashed on me, and my save is gone, I need to save more often...

It would be better to make your inexperienced immigrant the trapped miner, you know  :cookieMonster:

"Hey come over and live with us; there's a 1 in 20 chance you'll get stuck in a cave-in!"

I didn' have immagrants thn, besides the save is ruined, Though I will do that if I get some immagrants before hand.  :cookieMonster:

Regardless, it's better to keep your experienced dwarf.

Agreed, If I do not get immagrants, should I send someone with alot of expendable jobs, or a small amount of jobs I could need.

Also if you lose all your Picks, you're screwed.

Holy stuff, I just caught a bronze colossus in one of my cage traps. What the hell am I supposed to do with him now?

If he is butcherable, butcher. If not, catapult or put him in magma.
Edit: Thanks to the help on getting rocks, I will now play this game again.

Tame it and stick it at your front door.

All I have is Copper, Silver and Aluminum.

No iron bearing mineral whatsoever, not even any flux stone or anything :/

Atleast I have allot of obsidian.

My first fort ever was in a huge mountain of rock salt. I looked all over for other minerals, but just salt. I gave up on that fort, mainly because I couldn't tell the difference between a construction site and a finished building (I thought finished workshops would look more complete, you know. Some big brown █ for walls and a little door in the front. It didn't occur to me until after I abandoned the fort that the jumble of blue-green and white slashes was my workshop), but also because all I could find was rock salt.

You'd think that building an outdoor workshop out of rock salt would be a bad idea, with it being soluble in rain water and everything, but the dwarves seem to be able to build anything out of everything and completely throw any common sense out the window. I also read on the wiki about possessed people grabbing items out of order and making absolutely handicapped things like Moss agate coffers (which, according to my research, would be a storage box carved out of an unreasonably huge gem stone).

I need to try and teach myself to play, it sounds awesome but I feel the same way I did when I first installed Quark and decided to make an interior- hopelessly lost, except even more than I did with Quark (it had friendly little buttons with tool tips).
