Dwarf Fortress

lol wedge.

Wow, your really lucky.

My clerk ended up dropping what he was carrying and picking up rhyolite, and was yelling for a metal bar so I quickly created a wood burner and smelter.  I then had one of my mettle smith immigrants smelt one of the gold nuggets I had.  He then took the gold bar and started working.  He then created a Rhyolite amulet.  Doesn't have much use, but I checked its worth, and it accounts for more then half of my fortress's wealth.

This is a Rhyolite amulet.  All craftdwarfship is of the highest quality.  It is encircled with bands of Rhyolite.  This object is adorned with hanging rings of Rhyolite and menaces with spikes of Gold.

Hopefully you won't end up with a dozen admantine tea cups engraved with dwarves embracing tentacle demons, although I suppose a matching set might be nice.

Haha god damn, however awesome that would be if I would stumble upon something like that in Adventrue mode, I'll still have to keep an eye on those silly dwarves and make sure they don't waste any adamantine making Adamantine Rings and such. I only have something like 40 adamantine ore so far (haven't dug into the pit yet for obvious reasons)

Also laremere, I'm a bit curious but how much is the amulet worth? I remember once my dwarves make a Heliodor Flask and it was worth my fortress at the time (something like 110,000)

That's a pretty sweet amulet. Might want to seal it inside some vault

I don't know were it is, how do I find it?

Your amulet? Probably still in the workshop unless you have a finished goods stockpile.

Ok, my bone carver has taken over a craft dwarf's workshop and is asking for shells, and I have none....like at all.

Edit: The trader's have arrived, I hope with all my heart they have a shell.

Edit: Nope -_-

Edit: lol, she gave birth, but that's not her mysterious construction.  I hope she leaves the baby ok when she goes crazy.

Edit: Great, new baby comes, old legendary miner dies from heat trying to find the magma pipe.

Edit: Well, at least something good has finally happened, my few mood dwarf somehow found a shell, and I discovered cave spider silk so that my weaver is now going to work on that.

Edit (yet again): She made a turtle shell chain, then canceled storing it to find her infant that she gave birth to while screaming for turtle shells.

Edit: Yay more migrants stone haulers!

I found a magma pipe! Yay

Time to build a forge/furnace room. I need to start training up a legendary armorsmith

Stupid hidden aquifers! I spent 2 years looking for the underground river that the embark screen assured me I had, and when I finally find it and start digging a tunnel for a well, the miner stops after 15 tiles and notifies me of damp stone. At least I only had to dig about 1/10th the distance and not worry about the 3 dozen creatures in the river.

For future reference, I would like to know how to keep my legendary miner from dieing when finding an underground magma pipe?

Also, my fortress has been having allot of snatcher lately, I think I need to hurry up with my defense and get the last few things moves inside before I get sieged.

Edit: Well, I was just playing along, when I noticed my hoard of stone haulers weren't inactive when I didn't have any stone to clear out of store rooms.  I then was wondering were in the world they were.  I then looked outside to see that the big bunch of trees that I had designated to be cut were being rapidly cut by my professional wood cutter and the haulers weren't even keeping up with the cutter.  Just as I was observing this, the spring Elvin caravan arrived XD

Edit: Well, my fortress is having allot of fun right now.  I had a possessed dwarf go insane because I couldn't figure out how to meet its demands that ended up being killed by the quickly recruited hunter near by.  Then I got ambushed while I wasn't prepared resulting in three dead so far.  I think my fortress is going to turn into a giant heep of mad dwarfs and will end with allot of fun.

I think this counts as "Your first few fortresses are doomed to fail" since all my other ones I've abandoned during the first year because I made some screw up in designing it resulting in it having no chance of going anywere.

For future reference, I would like to know how to keep my legendary miner from dieing when finding an underground magma pipe?

What happens when he discovers the magma pipe? Is he on the top level (same level as the empty magma vent room) or is he digging somewhere more underground and just digging into it until he hits magma and dies?

Also never, ever dig stairs downwards to find a magma vent, this will undoubtedly drop your dwarf into the pool of magma below (or atleast it happened to me, maybe we was fireballed or something, I dunno). Always try to find the top of the vent by digging straight lines towards it on each level until you find the empty top room. This is the safest bet.

Attacking random humans/dwarves in adventure mode is hilarious and awesome.

I didn't know the FISHERY WORKER was a fricking MARTIAL ARTIST

like i just don't understand what to do.... well i do i have the controls down and stuff

but like it gets to the point where i have a mason woodworkplace engraver etc..

and all i do is make furniture and doors and store stuff and get food.

then people come and they wonder about being annoying i make more rooms.

Then i just don't know what else to do after that... like whats th next step what should i do can you give me a list of what you guys do every fortress?

In order?

For example, i dig into the mountains start making rooms then furniture etc.

The game presents challenges after you get your rooms carved out:
A) How to get a booze industry /  a well.
B) Maintaining stocks.
C) Getting immigrants and making rooms / keeping the stocks up for them.
D) Trading with caravans and preparing an army.
E) Having multiple sieges.
F) Being attacked by megabeasts and other things.
G) Secret stuff.

You could start out by making some crafts for trading... make a craftsdwarf's workshop and you can make items that are mainly for trading, such as stone toys and wooden instruments.

Booze is important, so set up a still.

Set people to go hunt and watch them go sprint after mountain goats.

Make your fort more pleasing; set up a waterfall near the main entrance, make statues everywhere, do something to make your dwarves happy.

Oh, and those dwarves that come? You want them. It's really hard to maintain different things with only 7 dwarves (hell, it can be hard to have a farm and fishery with 7 and still be able to carve out stuff).

EDIT: oh right. My leader is resting and unconsious, and the liason is here, WHAT DO I DO

EDITAGAIN: you can't be serious. both of my hunters have bruised brains.
