I think that there will be alot more people playing once the DLC is released (very soon I hear). I can't really say that for sure seeing as (no matter how much I wish!) I don't own L4D and I haven't even got to play it.

More like a way to download custom content fast from servers so then there can be mods and new campaigns from people.
