Sure. Aside from them being much less visible, much larger (19 blocks triggerable), able to float, and harder to bypass.

Anyone notice that right clicking an NPC with some items in the newest snapshot will make the NPC steal it when it brings up the trading menu?
Right clicking an NPC with the gems (whatever their currency is called) makes them take it all.
