yes.
i've heard from some to preserve the leaves directly above the trunk, but i've not found this to be the case personally.

use transformer upgrades, and give them MV power. as well, put in a couple energy storage upgrades so they can hold more than one cycle of processing.

Ya, transformer upgrade and storage upgrade would fix that. Transformer to allow higher voltage, storage to store more to sustain it during active service. Storage isn't required though, but if it needs more than the current max, it'd be worth it.

There's a ton missing if it was last updated 1.2.5. Texture packs between 1.4.2 and 1.4.4 would even need updates, because a new disc was added, among other things.
