Most likely a lava moat. I hope sometime soon that he'll set up draw bridges :o

Take a bucket and collect lava underground then carry it to the surface and dump it somewhere.

Yes, I had ran around outside the snow and 2 creepers and 1 spider came after me.

I was making a little fort thing under ice, because there was no water under the ice, and I put torches on the walls
And the ice melted. And now I'm stuck outside at night with nowhere to hide and no weapons :C

Edit: I hate the ambient noises of underground, so fricking creepy.
