When/how do you get snow?

Its random when you generate a map.

The map will either be all snow, or no snow.

It never starts or stops either.

Which place do you think is better for setting camp up in?
the moutains or near the water, because both have their dark places and monster spawns, but I do like the company near the water

Notche needs to make either patches of snow in maps or make it so it slowly changes from snow to dirt back to snow and so forth.

Yes, I had ran around outside the snow and 2 creepers and 1 spider came after me.

Notch said he broke them, and I've gone spelunking and built at night on hard mode with nothing :s

I wish you could place Redstone on the side of walls and ceilings. It would make compacting switches into a fortress a ton easier.
