1. delete the original launcher dl a new one

2. delete the .minecraft (back up the saves folder first) folder in C:\Documents and Settings\(usernamehere)\Application Data
if you can't find it/computer says you don't have it tell your computer to show hidden folders

Actually all I had to do was redownload it on the downed minecraft site and It's fine.

I tried that, it gets stuck at 79 percent and says error

yeah but sometimes it will get corrupt that way and crash every time you launch
