On the Main Menu there's a way to change the controls. I think merely pressing Alt+F4 will close the window, and hopefully your game will have autosaved.

At least a quarter of the reason I want 1.8 so bad is because I'm ready to start a new world but I don't want to start it on 1.7 only to have 1.8 come out before I can make significant progress.

Heh, I'll be kinda sad to lose my 1.7 world, but I'll try out the new stuff in 1.8 c:

A spear with a rope would be cool.
A spear would be an arrow without a feather.
To add a rope you would put the spear with a string under it.
With a rope spear you would be able to pull mobs towards you similarly to fishing poles.
