to be honest, 1.8 and 1.9 have not really changed the overall "adventure" yet.  Just added some new mobs...  The abandoned mineshafts are cool but I wouldn't say they really "reward adventure" in any significant way.

hm, you could make one that follows a set path easy, just have it to where it pushs up a piston which pushs to the side
