I'm trying to update Minecraft to prerelease 3, and it keeps getting stuck at the Done Loading screen

You don't need to update, just place the jar in bin, overwriting the old one.

Try deleting bin, redownloading, then replacing the jar.

Also, I found it out

Because there were two jars inside my Downloads, the PR3 jar was immediately called minecraft(1).jar

So that probably forgeted it up but I fixed it.
