Would it be possible to make mods that can be added through the texture packs folder? I mean, anything going in there modifies the minecraft.jar.

I hate it when texture packs look like that far away, So...Messy..? fuzzy..? Mipmapping would help.

optifine has a special thing for this that makes textures blur after a certain amount of blocks. unfortunately it isn't a fading blur, but a hard blur. that means that the intersection of the blurred with the normal texture is really noticeable when you're walking on a flat surface or have any amount of blocks infront of you that are inside and out of blur distance.
