In case you missed it this weekend, Mojang got two new developers: @SeargeDP and @TheMogMiner. Excited for the future of Minecraft!

The founder of MCP now works at Mojang, which will definitely help push the Mod API since most mods rely on MCP's index to create mods. Will be a bit odd overall, but he should be able to help them figure out how to make sure old mods are still partially compatible or at least simple to implement.

Then they also hired someone specifically specializing in rendering, so he'll be to blame for rendering problems from now on.

In other news, the staff are all heading home, so hopefully we'll get 1.7.3 out soon to fix all the tons of bullstuff. That, or they go on vacation and these new employees have to try fixing it.

I just upgraded to 1.6.4 right around when 1.7 was released.

This will not be the case when the Mod API comes out, since the biggest barrier was MCP not updating.

Industrialcraft, Buildcraft, Thermal Expansion, Forestry, or MineFactory Reloaded for automation
Applied Energistics (requires energy) or Logistics Pipes (requires BC) for sorting and storage (goes hand-in-hand with automation)
Twilight Forest, MystCraft, or Aether II if you want adventure
Biomes O' Plenty or ExtraBiomesXL if you want more land to discover

it's pretty fun... feels like old times

I expect by 1.8 there might actually be bits of usable API ready, instead of just preparation like modularizing parts of the game so a mod can easily remove, modify, add to them. Searge's entire job was giving an API for mods to link into, and now he can contribute that directly into the game by contributing to the developers on how players prefer it.
