I was looking at FTB inventions and it looked cool, only downside is there aren't many magic mods.

thaumcraft is okay and has some neat stuff, but gets annoying after doing the same thing for the 5th go through of stuff though
Ars magica was loving neat when I finally bothered to use it though

Botania is a fantastic first-time magic mod for people used to tech mods, given that it's basically a gui-less tech mod with floral machines.
