More Progress
I finished adding in the functionality for joining a friend's server. It has to make an additional request on the master server and the chat server in order to figure out whether a password needs to be supplied which makes it take a little longer than I'd like, but it works nonetheless. I spent a bit of time implementing logging into the chat server to log errors, connections and general activity appropriately, too.

I'm considering starting the beta once the chat side of things is working. The info and chatroom features are the two things that would be missing from the initial beta but once I confirm that the server actually works acceptably with a bunch of people using it I'll then integrate those features as part of beta updates. So the priority now is the chat functionality.

I know figuring out if a server is passworded is due to not every server having RTB, but just to be sure: If a server does have RTB, it is pre-listed as passworded through some means so it doesn't have to do an extra connection? Was thinking it could be part of the general data.

Edit: Oh, unless it's about non-instantaneous updating to say the server is now passworded? Still might help to list it instead of always forcing the extra connection.

I've said before this is a thread where I post updates on Development of RTB. It's not a place where people suggest things they think would make everything work better.

It's immediately obvious that you don't have an understanding of how RTB works so I have no idea why you're trying to suggest improvements.

Ok, I'll be checking...

Will you be reopening beta any time soon?

If anyone asks about the beta again I will specifically prevent them from applying for it.

I'm currently working on the interface design for the chat window at the moment which is a fair bit of work to get it looking and working nicely. I did a poll a while back to find out whether people wanted individual windows for each chat or tabs for each chat within a single window (much like how the IRC works) and people seemed to prefer the tabs. I prefer windows though so I'm thinking I'll add an option to change this easily. Like I said before, chat functionality is already working on the server and I've done a bunch of tests with it already.

Implementing chat should just be a case of finishing the chat interface and then pointing server input/output to it. Getting tabs working is going to be a bit messy given that the chat windows are resizeable and I haven't decided whether I'll do it chrome style or RTB IRC-style. I really hate the arrows so something chrome-style would be nice. You just have to not talk to so many people at once.

Once the chat window is done, there will be a v4 beta featuring only the chat (all other v4 functionality won't be in the download - it'll just be chat for now) and those features will gradually get re-integrated.

This is kind of a stupid question, but say I got the beta. Then I needed to save it. Would I just save it over System_RTB?

He often suggests that you use it with a new copy of Blockland.
Yes, it would save over System_ReturnToBlockland

Oh come on, that was 11 pages ago. How do you expect me to see that?

Why did you ask anyways?

I expect you to atleast browse the thread a bit to make sure a question you ask hasn't already been asked, otherwise you're wasting my time.

I've decided to allocate about a third of the beta slots to people generally considered to be competent (and with scripting experience). You may get a private message at some point inviting you to join the beta. This will happen before the general public can apply.

The v3 beta unfortunately ended up with a lot of "stupid" people managing to apply which left us with some useless bug reports and some people who didn't bother to report things until after the public release. I think this should fix that to an extent.

Please don't reply claiming to be competent - it will likely make me think otherwise.

Why did you ask anyways?

Just curious, because the website said he'd reopen the beta when people stop testing and get bored.

Ninja edit.

Sorry :c

You don't create a new post for a ninja dumbass

I said sorry about the not browsing. And plus his ninja edit wouldn't be so ninja if I edited my own post. Just sayin'.
