Author Topic: I have a band concert tonight and am nervous as stuff.  (Read 3582 times)

You just get a bunch of hit songs, you get into drugs, you bang a few bitches and you die at the age of forty.

Sounds like a waste of time.
You forgot the "inspire millions of people", "make billions of dollars", "have fun with your career".
forget, how pessimistic are you? Would you rather work in a cubical? If being a musician is a waste of time then have fun operating a word processor for the rest of your life. Most musicians don't "die at the age of forty" anyway, I'm not even sure where you got that stereotype.
if you call that living :cookieMonster:
He's perfectly healthy and still doing concerts, raking in billions of dollars and bolstering nations of fans, has recently released an album, and previously released music that will forever be ingrained in human culture. But sure, that's not living.

Everything you've said in this thread is blatantly stupid and philosophically forgeted.

I've got blisters on me finguhssss.

Bah everybodys in a band nowadays. I blame guitar hero and rockband for making everybody want to do it.

I will work in a cubical. The job would be important. If you want to make music your career, it's fine with me. I just don't see it a necessary career. And being a musician isn't the only 'cool' job there is, I could be a fireman, or a crab fisher, or even part of the military, those jobs are just as cool as being a musician.

Entertainment careers just aren't that special as most people think.

Or maybe you're disappointed that not everybody has the same outlook as you.

If you had bothered to read anything, he clearly stated it was a school band.

Or you could be a football playing king is space!

You're in 6th grade band and you're nervous?
You're among like 60+ people, relax. Back when I had band I didn't even know the music so I just fake played.

My god, Hah. I just copied the finger placements of the kid next to me. Right until the teacher wanted to hear each and one of us use our instrument and play a song from the book.
I failed miserably, I'd let out a random toot with a buzz in the end trying not to die from laughter in a room filled with 80 kids.
Teacher kicked me out and sent me over to the choir class.

You missed my point entirely.
Your job isn't important. In the next 10-20 years your "important" job will be nonexistent. Whether its because the company goes under, the nation is destroyed, or because a robot replaces you because they don't have to pay robots and robots don't complain. Look at the car manufacturing industry, imagine how "important" factory workers thought their jobs were. I wasn't saying that being a musician is a 'cool' career above others, of course I respect soldiers and firemen, I was arguing that your philosophy is stupid. Music is necessary, it's one of the things that makes us fundamentally human. A word processor, a TPS report, and a spreadsheet, however you deem them "necessary", cannot equate to the ability to invoke emotion and revolution.

He's sixty two and you can't understand a single thing he says.

He has an extremely heavy accent you doof. Most British singers do, but is lessened when they sing:

That's from this year.

Or maybe you're disappointed that not everybody has the same outlook as you.
Not particularly. Disappointed you couldn't have made a dumber insinuation about my intentions.

Who says Ike used a word processor? What if he's in a merchandise business or an undercover agent working on nuclear explosives? Besides that, it's probably fun to shoot your office neighbors with a *foam* dart cannon...

Anywho, good luck and have fun.

Re-read everything I just posted.

Don't worry. I play the trombone, and even if you aren't behind everyone like me, you can still blend in with the 100+ other people in the band.

Well since you play Annoying Orangeet, you got to make sure you look good as well as play good. I
ve seen a lot of Annoying Orangeet players play really nice because they slouch and have their horn down. You NEED to keep your bell up, and also sit up straight. As for the nervousness, keep in mind that you are only in 6th grade, and your not in the Cleveland Orchestra or something. People know that your are going to occasionally mess up. I play Bassoon, and am the ONLY bassoon in the enitre band of almost 100 people. I sit up front row.
