Is the stone and grass purple? You can't even mine that stone yet. I think you should get some better weapons before you go to the corruption.

Your background walls must be something that you have placed yourself. The house must be at least 6x8(not including the walls, floor and ceiling) Items do not break in this game, so you don't really need to make more than one item. Avoid purple grass areas(corruption) until you have some armor. (Copper or Iron) Make multiple houses so NPCs can move in. Try making a furnace and an anvil, then you can start crafting yoru armor/chests/better weapons.

Oh dear god no. Stay away from that area, it's called the Corruption. If you don't have good enough armor or weapons, you will die. :C

yes but you must be literally borderline corruption for him to spawn

There is a spawn limit, but that increases on blood moons. There are generally a maximum of 6 zombies/eyeballs during the night on your screen.
