There's one flaw to that:

Wires + 1 Second Timer + Fish Statue = LOTS of money
Wires + 1 Second Timer + 3 Fish Statue = LOTS of MONEY

Basically, unless that stocking is going to present me with a full stack of Platinum I'll just murder every living thing I see.

You wouldn't kill the fish directly, so you might be secure.

Combine flash powder with some wire and a grenade.
Flash grenade. 4-second timer, blinds for 5 seconds and mildly disrupts aim for another 2.5 seconds.
