A lot of terraria biomes have a tendency to spawn deep within the world. Try looking there.

protip if you already found corruption, your world won't have a crimson biome.

I think the terraria devs are trying to push people to create a ton of worlds and explore those. a good chunk of the items I've found so far have hinted towards it.

the need to have nearly all types of alternate ore to correspond with what you want to craft.

I remmember having the legendary Excalibur, and the full (whaterver you need to kill all the bosses to get it) armor set, well on 1.1, thats why I stopped playing, I got everything, and theres nothing more to do.

I ran into some beetles that drop things that make dye, Then I also got a dye person arive.

get the dye man to move into your house then buy a DYE VAT from him and place it, its like a crafting table for dyes.
so far these are the dyes i know of

Marigold flowers (that look loving orange) = Yellow
Blueberry bushes = Blue
Prickly pears on top of some cacti = Pink
Random beetles underground = Red/Purple

also to get him to move in i think you need something to make dyes with like one of the marigolds
