I threw a stone while running away from Kobolds and it broke his hip.

And then in another battle with Kobolds I threw a wolf corpse and broke a Kobold's knee.
"I used to be an adventurer like you, then I took a wolf corpse to the knee."

That's what I love about Dwarf Fortress. No matter how good or powerful you are, or how much of an advantage you have. You can still die.

I am living in fear of archers. They have a certain advantage over pretty much everything, and whenever I travel anywhere I get attacked by at least 20 kobolds and goblins in the intervening period.
If one hits my foot and "Ability to Stand Lost" occurs, I'm done for...again.

Also, how long does one DF year take to pass on Adventurer Mode? I've played for about 7 hours and it's still mid summer.

I'd imagine it's 365 days.

Also, if you want to have a higher chance to live, you can swim a lot and raise your strength, agility, and toughness through the roof. It is pretty boring though.

There are 12 months in the dwarven year divided into 4 seasons of 3 months each. Unlike the traditional Gregorian calendar, each dwarven month is exactly 4 weeks long, or 28 days.

400 kills, most of the towns nearby see my character as hero and everything was going great until I decided that having 5 companions was a good thing, and slept outside. 10 kobolds came and I got shot in the head instantly before I got out of sleeping.

Oh well...Admittedly I DID have nearer to 10, but a trip into the mountains landed my group a visit from a dragon, which killed pretty much everyone.

Wait, if I found a vampire in my fortress, what do I do? Order my squads to kill him?

Order your squads to run away hopelessly.

I've got my first sustainable fortress.
Feels good man

After looking at the (blank) justice screen, it seems you wait for someone to witness a vampire feeding on someone/accusing them then you can convict them and have your hammerer beat the forget out of them until they die. Haven't tested it, though.

Or magma. Magma always works.
