4.2ghz is a very slight overclock and thus should not need much of a cooler. Definetly not the NH-D14 which, in honesty, is a probably more than you would ever need. It sounds pretty clearly like your friend doesn't know much about computers, so you should probably verify that you know how to overclock anyway...

Although I personally think its a little ridiculous to spend $600 on a cpu,  I would suggest something along the lines of the hyper 212+ or the Xigmatek dark knight. If you really wanted to push it or just felt like taking a bigger chunk out of your friends absurd budget, I would suggest looking at Corsair's Hydro series of coolers, and Antec's Kuhler series. Both are AIO liquid cooling systems. I know that you said you are afraid that they might leak or something, but after the 100s of 1000s of units they've shipped, I haven't heard of  a single recent case of them leaking. I know that there might have been a few with the very early h50's, but I haven't heard of any h70s, or h100s that have gone bad.

Would you mind posting the rest of the build? I'm curious to know what you put together with $2600.

Your right in saying that he isn't bright with computers, that's why he asked me :D

But any-who, he told me he wanted at least a 4.2 OC, possibly a 4.5 or a 4.6. Those other CPU coolers look pretty decent, I would hint more towards the Xigmatek one however. He wants a system that will last him more than 5 years and would be balling out all games and so I told him no problem. So here is the build I have put together. (Including that cooler you suggested + its actually cheaper than $2600 because I want to save his mother some money at least.)

All this including shipping is $2540.31 He told me he didn't want an SSD so I left that out. He doesn't even use Blu-Ray so he just needs a simply optical drive. And he is paying me $100 out of his own pocket to make me build it for him.

According to benchmarks, SLI GTX 670's are just slightly lower performing in most games than a GTX 690.

What do you think?

And he is paying me $100 out of his own pocket to make me build it for him.
I wish I was you.

I wish I was you.

Lmao. You can be if you wanted to. Study computers for about a month like I did, then just find someone who desperately needs a new computer xD

It says AMD High Definition Audio Device in Device Manager, but I can't find any drivers on the AMD Website. What do?

Am I bottle necking my PC if I have a 4 core AMD CPU with 3.5 Ghz and a Radeon HD 5450 GPU?

Also how good is this graphics card?

damn
I've built like 10 people's computers and never asked for a profit. :/

I need help right now.  I need your guys help to find an adapter for me.  I have scoured everywhere.  I want to feed my component video from my xbox to my 1920x1080 LED monitor.  Only issue.  It has DVI-D.  I have bought tonight so far all the audio cables I need to split it off the audio lines to my speakers for recording, I just need to cover the video part.  If you guy's think I should try doing DVI-I to DVI-D then post links or whatever so I can buy it tonight.

Never mind, I found all the adapters I need.  I will get the first adapter May 17th and the second one latest by the 22nd.  Excited I can use my PVR to 1080i without any HDTV but through my LED display.

I figured I would start making a profit somehow. Heck why not? $100 for building a computer is not actually that much when you compare it to companies that pre-build theirs.

You don't need sound drivers, its the gpu. You just need gpu drivers

-snip-

It looks like a pretty solid build. The only thing I would suggest changing is the ram. 32gb is rediculous in almost any consumer application. I would highly suggest moving down t.
o 16 or even 8. If your friend really wants 32gb, get two 4x4gb kits, remember that you have 8 dims to fill.

Can someone help on this? http://imgur.com/dCBpC,cVA2R,pRqYr,PwC5D,HXAco

I am getting tired of not seeing all the graphics in games.

He really does want 32GB. Idk why. But anyways, I don't see the point of filling all 8 slots. (I kind of just thought of that now) You get faster performance if you have less sticks and it gives room for expansion.

I have a minor issue I was hoping someone knew how to fix.

I'm using a small notebook laptop, and the keyboard is acting as if I am holding down the function key (the Fn key used for the second function of certain keys). When I hold down the key, it acts as if the function key is not being pressed. There is no interface I can find for the keyboard's driver, and it happened quite suddenly (therfore I assume something switched it on).

Any help is appreciated.

Yank the battery out and put it back in
