Author Topic: 2012/02/05 - Shadows and Shaders vs. Interiors and Terrain [Fan Art Too]  (Read 514025 times)

Is it alright if I come here just to see the fanart? lol.

Someone can just wait a day, then simply upload the save somewhere for everyone to use

mine approximates it with 1x1 plates lol

take a by 1k by 1k brick area and you have a million bricks

I think I'll hold off on releasing gigabyte sized save files...

can I please have?

I cannot wait for this amazing update but I'm not entirely sure what shaders will mean to Blockland.

Since shadows are calculated and rendered, is that basically the use of the term shader in the original post? I'm slightly confused.

Yeah, I asked this earlier. I understand what's going on with shadows, but what exactly are shaders? Is that basically just the specular effect on bricks?

This has degraded, literally, into the same 3 people making spiteful, uninformed comments about interiors.

Has it not occurred to you guys that interiors and terrains are ugly? Even the most beautiful maps out there for Blockland are using low-resolution textures and are horrible distorted and jaggy.

You guys shouldn't want interiors. You should want bricks to be done better. That should always be the focus. That was something I forgot about CityRPG -- I go through the trouble of adding all these cool RPG elements, but it falls apart because there's no reward for building. There's no reason to build. Not encouraging building in Blockland is always a horrible idea.

I completely forgot about the brick system for a moment, I hope they possibly improve it in what ways they can when interiors and terrains are out of the way.

I guess this post means pretty much nothing is planned that far ahead?

He's already said he's not going to talk about future updates.

i dont understand anything why cant you have shadows and shaders AND interiors and terrain

You have to maintain the code for both.

I have no idea what this means though.

goddamnit woman I'm not linking you to this thread again.

Interiors are poorly coded, and coded in such a way they put a massive strain on the existing lighting system. If they do not remove the Interiors, they cannot improve the lighting system because slower computers will not be able to handle it.

IMO the people that keep whining about how terrain accounts for "a majority of the game" are delusional and have completely forgotten the entire essence of blockland

this has been explained far too many times already, and i am pretty sure this was answered in the OP

I'm guessing there is just something in the engine's code that terrain and interiors do that make it hard for certain updates.

This explains why almost every update we ever get is just a new default Add-On or a bug-fix. But now without interiors and terrain, we will get more 'advanced' updates kind of like how we got brick physics (which took a while) and now shadows.

I hope your almost done with the update so people can quit making petition threads.
Also how will things like Content bricks look in the update, they don't work the same as normal bricks.

Also to Kom, will the glare as seen on the bricks be adjustable?  The glare of Afghan dm and ctf arena look a tad too intense.  Will the glare adjust with Map lighting?

They said that dts models will have shadows right?
