Author Topic: 2012/02/05 - Shadows and Shaders vs. Interiors and Terrain [Fan Art Too]  (Read 529652 times)

I made a little repository of my favorite maps in my Blockland directory for old time's sake. :)
Could you store all of mine for safety please?

3 questions for kompressor:

1)  Will several bricks darken the full shadow under them?  For instance, try this ingame and fetch multiple players to one spot.  Have them stand still.  The total shadow under them gets darker.  Will this be fixed?

2)  Will dts and brick shadows extend as far as the visibility limit allows?  Currently, a flying airplane will lose its shadow about 10 bricks' height from the ground.  Will this be possible?

3)  Will there be a limit in the mapping script for "Minimum Natural Light" that states how dark shadows can be in the map and "Maximum Sun Glare" that sets the greatest amount of sun glare that occurrs on normal FX bricks.  This would be useful for maps with cloudy or other conditions.

So brick/player lights will still shine through walls?

I immediately forsee one crucial problem:

BRICK. DAMAGE.

How will you have terrain builds with sloped parts if brick damage is on? Honestly, that will cause a whole heap of problems if you want some bricks destructable but not others.

thats a good point. more reason why i support a terrain script for bricks.

i have a mod that makes all loaded bricks indestructible

that doesn't help if you reload bricks after shutting down. i would suggest something similar to the selector, or a terrain build mode. /Tbuild or a keybind to make any brick you place a "terrain brick" making it indestructible, as well as a selector plugin to make existing bricks indestructible.

Interesting. Fixes the problems here, it appears.
If you want to solve this problem, yes. Stop whining otherwise and quit being a lazy kid. I did this with one of my spacebuilds and it didn't take very long at all, and honestly you didn't think whatever you're doing through enough if you didn't attempt to accomodate for this already.

This isn't something new, this has been around for years. Sitting on your ass and expecting everyone else to fix it rather than actually fixing the problem yourself is your own fault.
Brick physics are client-sided dumbass, you can't "lag people" by stuff that is only affecting you.
I'm pretty sure that if a server has an abusive, overprotective weapon such as the Shining Laser actively used in minigames, that it's not worth going to.
1. Good for you, try eventing the 30000 bricks in my city build when you can't see half of them.
2. I'm aware of that, but I worry that anyone who leaves those options too high would have some difficulties.
3. That was an exaggeration thrown in for lag example. Someone once built a huge tower out of 1x1 plates on a server and shot it repeatedly with a rocket launcher with similar results.

Anyways, how would this handle brick trust anyways? Bedroom freebuilds would be no more. Frankly, I think mapping is a lot easier to do.

It would be nice if terrains and interiors and maps could be kept.

Good for you, Awdax posted something else just now.

Build land.
Save.
Build stuff on top.
Save separately.

Load land.
Turn off part where loading makes indestructible bricks.
Load 2nd save that has land and stuff on top

Moot point. See Awdax's post.

Woah, I say what swollow suggested is much better since it requires zero effort instead of having to wand the bricks, and any others that might not be connected.

Hmmm, seeing as the wand doesn't save, that is true. I guess it's still questionable. But it's moot if the other guy doesn't SHARE his mod.

Have fun wanding fifty-thousand bricks every time you start a server.
