Who built the human city? GOD?
The human gods haven't graced the world in a long time, Although they were around in GW1 they left the world to it's own devices after Abaddon is killed in Nightfall. Who built it? Humans.

There's not really anything on how it was built, Unless if i'm forgetting a mention in one of the books, But just assume a ton of humans needed a safe place to go after guild wars 1.

so they carved out a castle from A MOUNTAIN.
I don't see any other possibilites.
The problem with the city is that it's on the walls. Sure there's like 40 buildings down below as well but most of it is ON THE SODDING WALLS
Nothing in that city makes any sense anywhere.

The world is full of magic, bro.

Youre doing it wrong.

No, you can, but you're being a cunt and complaining about stuff that's there for aesthetic purposes, has no real effect on the game, just for looks.

No, Much of the geometry is similar to what it was before, If you mean, They flattened some land, Yes they did, Which isn't a overly big.

You also need to remember that you have the strength of the norn and the technology of the asura and their gates.

The city probably started out smaller but became much larger when humans from all parts of tyria came to it. Also the flooding of lions arch probably helped too. For it's size you have to remember that most of the tyrian human race lives there.

By this logic you shouldn't complain if arenanet suddenly decides to use minecraft textures for the entire game, or changed every monster in the game into cookie monsters in different colours.

it probably didn't start out smaller and grew since it looks like a very much planned Mars base rather than an actual town. (ergo aliens did it)
also, again, why do they live on the freaking wall? living on the ground isn't safe and practical enough?
There's so much nonsense architecture going on around me as I run for miles and miles to get from point A to point B in this silly city and I don't understand it.

Why do people live in high rise apartments? "Normal houses" not good enough for them?

What do you like the view or something?!

Now what if the city ran out of spaces for housing and they started building them on the sides of the walls? There's so many possible reasons.

Not only that part of the city was lost in "The Great Collapse" AND another part of the city is a carnival.

Now what if pray tell the city ran out of spaces for housing and they started building them on the sides of the walls? There's so many possible reasons.
If they wanna live so high up that many people probably die from accidents all the time, then why not just stack the houses inside of the city? it's still senseless to have like five houses on top of eachother, but I guess they could sort of get away with that without looking super silly.
having most stuff on top of the walls makes no sense anywhere.

of course, it's also easier for you to try to make a point when you're only answering the part of what I said that you could sort of handle.

Not only that part of the city was lost in "The Great Collapse" AND another part of the city is a carnival.
some buildings collapsed right into the ground where they stood? that's sad.
well good thing they have carnivals and whatnot now with this we're at war everyone's gonna die-type thing going on.

jesus forget nym, this kind of complaining is so loving annoying, its a game set in a fantasy universe.
Enough anything is loving possible when its all made up

I don't think i've seen flat styled houses in tyria at all, Only cantha has that sort of stuff.

I think the answer is possibly, It's just not how tyrians build.

Also i would wonder more about how the charr did this:
