Author Topic: gimmicky-ass TDMs and HOLY stuff STOP IT  (Read 17952 times)

I agree with the OP wholeheartedly. The only way you can make this stop however is if everyone shared your opinion or thought exactly like you. What do you want Badspot to do? Instigate martial law on how servers are run? Not to mention that this is the same as any other bandwagon that people hop on to when something gets popular. The use of this topic extends as far to those who would agree and be willing to change their methods. And if you put that into retrospect, that may or may not be a lot of people.

Well, we COULD start taking action. By that, I mean we start hosting the kind of servers that we think are improvements to what is already out there.
It may be possible to open some peoples eyes to some more hosting opportunities. Some people probably have no idea what to host except for what they already see in the server list every day.

Starting something more popular and bearable sounds like a good plan. But first things first is getting a good idea into motion.

I made a battlefield 3 server. The map was a combination of acm and beta city. Left the server up for 4 hours. Came back, looked at my log and only 3 people came on.

you are basically why i am so pissed off

i am positively elated that nobody even wanted to visit you in passing

yeah, the more original servers get very few people joining, it seems like

all will be well next month when i have a new computer and buy kalphiter server

The map was a decent setup and the weapons were good. It wasn't like those grapple knife games.

sunsoaked sanctuary was full two days running, so i have to disagree

people do, apparently, enjoy quality, so that's a great trend

i've been talking about how to address this for some time now. i think i might have mentioned it on the forums, but i'm nobody to organize big events

the idea, by the way, is creating a sort of "grand prix"; 20 people fight throughout the course of 4 deathmatches (randomly selected out of a much larger 'pool') to earn points- the winner getting 10, and then ticking down for each successive placing behind him

this, of course, would require people to build deathmatches: serving as a sort of call-to-arms to actually create stuff instead of just making copies of what they see

possibly more incentive could be made by offering prizes, like new content (MORE toys to play with!) for anyone who makes a featured deathmatch (and as a runner-up prize) and even more new content for the champion

you put together 2 maps and used the most cookie-cutter weaponry available

your only comment on this was that you didn't get as many people as you hoped

you are exactly why i am so pissed off

The maps layout is original and a lot of weapons weren't bf3 and we're unique. Map I made is here: http://forum.blockland.us/index.php?topic=208698.0

I think we also need more maps that "don't make sense". I would guess something like Quake.

Decent Top-Down TDM's were fun

the issue is most of the servers people want either don't interest me at all or are something i can't make (or i could make it but it'd be very low quality)

maybe if somebody made A RUSH GAMEMODE FOR SLAYER i would hurry up and finish some of these builds ive got laying around
bushido, i support you 100% - i loving hate boss battles, knife tdms, all that other stuff- its the same thing BUT REFURBISHED OVER AND OVERRRRR

An idea for an "idea compilation" thread. We could have someone log ideas that people mention in the thread that are deemed as interesting. From there, anyone who wants an idea for a new game can refer to the thread's OP. It doesn't have to be limited to gimmick DMs, as there a number of things we could imagine for ideas. People could just throw around their brainstorming ideas and let others critique and modify them until people see that the idea is intriguing, then it would be logged in the OP.

This will never dissappear I hope you know that Bushido. There will always be good servers and sadly the bad servers. The ratio would probably always be one to three for good and bad servers.

I support your idea and all, but it's never going to change, you're facing a huge team of people who lack these servers compared to you and a few others. Just gotta deal with, it evolved with the game.
