Backstory*: Most of Jerry's life was spent with a loving family in a sky-rise apartment amidst the sprawling financial district. Throughout his life, Jerry would often run up and down the sidewalk outside his home and race cars. He would never win, but eventually gained enough strength to outrun his neighbor Randall. When the two were 15, they took up freerunning and parkour. Jerry promised his family when he was 17 after Randall fell from a rooftop and snapped his neck. But Jerry couldn't bear losing the satisfaction of feeling the wind on his face and ran from home. After a year, he was apprehended by police on two counts of aggravated battery after beating a purse snatcher. Jerry was turned back over to his parents, and when he was 19, moved out into his own apartment. He wouldn't neglect his hobby of freerunning and still roams the streets late at night.

I fiddled with a bottle cap in my hand, turning it over and over. The gangbangers had hardly grabbed my attention before, due to the mere fact that what they did wasn't my business. Today, I noticed the commotion within the alley and sat on a building to watch. The whine of the air conditioners around me drowned out the voices, but I could make out a yelp from the homeless girl they had cornered. Many times I had considered giving her some money, many times I had neglected her. She was a troublemaker, but these guys were starfishs anyway.
Before tossing the bottle cap, I looked at it. It was from my favorite cherry soda and had a high metal content. No doubt would it make a considerable amount of noise. I raised my arm to toss it when the men let up. "Let her go.." I heard over the din, and I shoved the bottle cap back into my pocket. I began to turn away before the girl ran around the corner of the alley and out onto the street. I stepped backward before running forward to gain momentum and leaping over the alley. I continued to run on top of the buildings parallel to the street.
