CPU
not a fan of watercooling, though
I'd actually have to call you out on that.

GPUs, if you are doing gaming all the time, should be the target since they definately produce more heat.

The CPU can handle itself with a non-stock fan.

the only reason to water cool a cpu is for overclocking.
but even the advertized speed cant be reached for long periods without water cooling. the normal fan/heatsink isnt enough to use stock cpu's

and cpus can run even faster on their own if they are cool enough. no overclocking needed.

My CPU uses stock cooler and its fine on most games, stuff like Watch Dogs however will shoot its temperature way up.

>My i5 4690k doesn't go above 55 degrees celcius with a £25 air-cooler while streaming the most demanding games I own with Intel Quicksync enabled to leverage the integrated GPU for encoding at 1080p, 30 FPS.

Must suck to be American if you can't even run stock without watercooling :I

Alright, so I'll probably prioritize the GPU. I still have the stock cooler on my cpu, and I have been planning on getting an aftermarket one. What should I look for when I start browsing through them?

Water cooling should only be used in general if you are overclocking. Why spend the extra money if you aren't going to overclock? And why spend it if you are only going to focus on just the CPU or GPU? might as well do both for a little bit extra.

Well I mean, I planned on only overclocking my gpu. I'm not as familiar with overclocking my cpu, and I don't know how much that could benefit me. My current build is a WIP, so eventually I could get the entire thing water cooled, but I'm trying to build it up as I go, which is why I wanted to know which part to prioritize.

I'm gonna be getting a H110 partially to allow me to overclock but mostly because I think the small heatsink and tubes look nicer than sodding great big heatsinks jutting out from my motherboard, a more minimalistic aesthetic if you know what I mean. stuff's gonna look great in my Corsair 750D

I've kinda got that mindset too. With my NZXT S340 case, minimalist and simplicity really looks fantastic, and that god damn stock cooler kinda ruins it.

cpu stock fan
good one

This is my current rig (not the best photo but it's good enough);

Pretty much all I still need to get is the H110 and a GTX 980, everything after that is superfluous stuff like another 8GB of RAM, LED fans and custom braided PSU cables.

Bonus - Welcome to my cubicle battlestation;

No, it's not even remotely practical. Yes it's dumb. Yes I do have two computers. Yes there are a lot of cables. Yes I do have to Dukes of Hazard my way in. No I don't care. Yes I like it. And finally, no the stuff not on the desk isn't mine for the most part, we still haven't finished moving my brothers junk out of this room.

You're like completely closed in. Why.

Also, what case is that?

So you're a lefty... Interesting.

I find it comfortable/cosy, dunno why as this sense of comfort doesn't apply to any situation other than being on the computer. And it's a Corsair 750D.

Ambidexterous, I can use mice with both my hands and frequently do; my right hand is dominant however

I saw that case in Microcenter, it's pretty big, but nothing compared to the 900D. XD

lol

So I think I'm gonna get an enthoo pro case for Christmas. I love its hidden PSU, the looks are pretty good, great cable management, and it has a nice big window.
