EA needs to make an Offline mode, otherwise this game is going to die out fast.

I take back my previous comment, those were my initial impressions. The game actually worked at the time. This launch was a massive failure because of your friendly neighborhood EA and their magical DRM.
I would not buy this game till these problems are fixed. Save yourself the trouble and frustration.

EA claims that Simcity needs connection to support its processing powers which have been confirmed with data brown townyses

I don't support DRM at all, it blows for this exact reason and it angers me that EA is a large company AND HAS HAD this exact experience before.

I feel the true reason EA made it DRM only is to force you to buy a new game in 5 years. I highly recommend this game, but I suggest you get it somewhere else other then Orgin (If you get what I mean)

I want to play with people that I can talk to, waiting for someone to point me to the Region of Blockland :/

When Simcity 6 (2?) comes out in 7 months after 2000$ of DLC they're possibly going to cut out the servers and the game will be useless.

Depends on 5's success on if they release 6.

Anyways, I like the company that's releasing this game. I know EA's behind it all, but there's some sub-fraction in the company making these sim-city games. I read an article on them. They seem pretty nice.

It's private. You have to add Piarre on Origin.

Yay just got my copy, Not that the game comes out here until midnight.

I already did, no responce...

DRM seems like its a real problem. Can anyone explain to me what it is exactly?

digital rights management, it's basically a way to stop piracy.
it can be done in a variety of ways, the very common key codes you use to authenticate are a form of drm (like with Blockland). it's not really a bad thing when done properly, but most developers do it in a way that usually badly affects the consumers, so obviously many people don't like it.

with SimCity, EA/Maxis decided to go with an always-online type of DRM that forces you to constantly stay online so it can constantly authenticate your game (to ensure you didn't steal it). the real downside? if you don't stay online, you can't play your game at all. if EA/Maxis' servers crash or overload, you can't play the game. if they eventually shutdown their servers, you won't be able to play it at all (unless they give out some sort of patch to fix this). this SimCity is basically just an MMO game that features a mode that lets you play by yourself, but you can't access any part of the game without an internet connection.

DRM in a nutshell means that the game has to always be connected to the servers of Maxis/EA to be fully functional, this is both good and bad in both ways.

Pros (Honestly not worth it)
  • Allows for cloud saves much easier
  • Allows for computing power like the Global Market
  • Allows for good Multiplayer
  • Stop piracy

Cons
  • No Internet, no game
  • If EA/Maxis decides to make a new game, simply shut off the old game servers, effectifly forcing you to buy a new game
  • people who live in BFE or are traveling cant play
  • Dodgy services if its with a weak company (EA is pretty big so I highly doubt they have server issues... wait...)
  • People will not be able to control their cities at all, no way of "save state, destroy, reload"

I hope this is informative, any more questions I can gladly answer

A fantastic city simulation that meets all expectations. So perfectly balanced it makes it easy to pick up and enjoy, but proves to be very difficult to master. Funny, addictive and with great options for both co-operative and competitive online play - Sim City is a clear candidate for Game of the Year.
And the last time I checked, it didn't have Co-op or was funny
