Dramatic bombs:

imo the bomb animation might look better if you have the bomb shoot spark particles on it's second animation stage

Chicken flying:

Hnnn... I can forsee so many potential strategies because of this

chicken flying before fixing the vertical wall boundaries pls

This is being made on the torque engine right?

i am quite sure Rotondo recompiled the sources himself with his own mods but yes, its definitely made in torque

hey rotondo, would it be possible to put the game in the xbox marketplace? is Torque even compatible with xboxes?

Yeah the engine is highly portable, eventually I'd love to get the game on a console but pc first.

Yeah I added this and it does totally look better, I added a super quick orange flash that shows the range of the bomb.

I already fixed the boundaries sadly :(

But I'll add a giant gap that has a bottomless pit that you can only get over with a chicken, that'll be fun!

It's basically torque but with the stock dts rendering ripped out, I've done a lot of other changes as well but that's the main one.

I've been experimenting with dynamically lowering the walls below your player so you can get a better view, what do you guys think of this.

In the past I've tried making them transparent but it looks like crap, and runs kind of poorly.

Honestly I want to bring in the camera a lot more to make the action and animations more noticeable but I need to figure out a good way to solve this visibility issue.

Yeah I definitely noticed that sometimes your character wouldn't really be visible in a hallway. This will hopefully fix that but it also kinda makes it look like you should be able to jump over it which isn't necessarily a good thing.

Lowering the walls looks like it greatly helps with the gameplay imo.

maybe like make the walls a bit transparent if the player gets close to it?

this this this

You could add the "globe effect" like in animal crossing, but that would probably take a big rendering re-work.

I never really had a problem with the walls. Adding the transparency when close would work.

you could make a player outline like the portals in portal 2 when the player is invisible, you could just constantly draw an outline of the player and draw the 3d player over that

Yeah, I'm still very unsure about jumping in the game. Personally I love it but it kind of does nothing. Not sure if I should just replace the jump button with a global bomb button, sort of like spelunky.

Edit: forget I love chicken jumping though :(

I'm going to try the transparency again, but basically it looks kind of crappy and my rendering flow is kind of not right for it so it causes some issues that I'd need to fix.

The globe effect would be pretty awesome, I'm not sure how to go about implementing that though. I'll talk to the master of shadows about it sometime.

Mainly what I saw people doing was pulling the camera way out and making it at a very high angle so you could see better.

This is better for gameplay but makes the game look much less appealing visually.

I've been experimenting with this tonight,

It's a really neat effect but I'm not sure if it's the best way to go about things.

yes that is hot goddamn

at least keep the jumping and chicken jumping functionality in so we can mod it in for a special gamemode or something
