Yes you get banned for going online with any form of modified files

Can confirm. I uninstalled GTA 5 because of this no-modding bullstuff

You only get banned if you've been flagged, and even then they investigate your account and cache your game files. GTA 5 has no anti-cheat system other than reports and red-flags that appear when you do illegal things, such as give yourself lots of RP or Cash. You should be safe.

Also, there's been conflicting reports on whether Rockstar actually bans you if you have re-textures, considering there are numerous mods out there re-texturing the game.
