you aren't always going to get to work on things you're excited about
This so much, especially in school projects with others.
It's sad.
While 1 and 2 sound more fun to me too, if it so happens to become number 3, you gotta have to accept it and make the best out of it.
Surely, there must be something that has to be done that you might even be slightly interested in within that project.
You gotta make the best of it either way.

I guess, but I doubt I could take that idea and make it interesting from the mechanics-side, which is the most painful part.

I'm going to work heavily on my presentations for Ideas 1 and 2, because I want everybody to be convinced they're the ways to go. It's going to be an uphill battle but I like (fun) challenges.

...the teacher did say we could make combinations. Holy stuff, I've got about 1000 ideas on this could work...

Thanks f3d :)

A science project gone wrong.
Defeat your corrupted classmates (and teachers as bosses).
In the end, you were just having an illusion from inhaling fumes from a science project.

I have an idea for a game's plot and I need to know if it's good so far.

You play as a deity representing the sun, and you've been meditating for 107 years on your seat at the top of the world, until you feel an itch. You look in the spyglass to your left and see the Earth in chaos, then you look at the phone to your right and see that your fellow gods haven't been leaving you any messages. It dawns on you that something has gone wrong, so you descend from the overworld in search of your friends.

The gameplay would be like a metroid-vania/kirby kind of game, with doors and a big sprawling world covering the overworld, middle-plane, and underworld. Each god you find and put back to work gives you a new ability or changes the world in some way. The cosmology and visuals would be inspired by Buddhist and Hindu art. How does this sound?

yea dude i heard poseidon has that waterproof phone

This idea sounded so much better when I couldn't sleep at 6 AM.

Not going to discuss the game design until we've built prototypes, but we're definitely working on my first-person physics game. We found a very interesting angle in terms of the story; it's a bunch of "freedom fighters" (sort of, I'm trying to be a little secretive) vs. a Government agency (sort of), and you're right in the middle of it.

Tomorrow is a big day; I'm presenting my story treatment, gameplay proposal and also marking the various (now outdated) concept art pieces our art guys have been working on. If all goes well, we should even have a basic level design down on paper by the end of the meeting.

The great things about this assessment is that it's been an excuse for me to study nuclear/quantum physics. Our game will obviously be using faked/hollywood/fictional physics, but it's nice to take some interesting concepts away and use them to drive the story into fun places.

EDIT: To clarify, about 2 weeks ago we all had the final vote on the game we were going with, and we decided on the physics game (much to the annoyance of the animator who came up with the school idea). Since then, my friend and I have gone through about 3 different iterations of the high-level mechanic design, and many, many more iterations of the story. I think we both are finally happy with where the game is going now.
