They're being proud of it because society constantly pushes them down, that it's something abnormal and sick and that you shouldn't be whatever you are. They're pushing for legal and social equality.
I'm absolutely fine with being proud of that. Go ahead and do a parade. But hyperloveualization just gives bigots something to point at and doesn't further the cause.
People should care less what others think of them.
Humans are social creatures. When you're harassed daily or shunned by your family it takes a toll on you.
Than why do people say "I'm proud to be gay!" rather than "I'm proud of myself for standing up against the people who are trying to put me down"
of the lgbt+ people i've met none of them have abused calling people family men. there are starfishs in every community and society and rational people know that there is a chance an starfish lgbt+ person will unrightfully accuse them of family values.
can someone give me an example of oppression
not like someone made a gay joke i mean actual first-hand oppression
in more liberal areas it'd just be microaggressions, offensive remarks, slurs, shunning or harassment.
in more dangerous areas it could probably extend to physical abuse and more frequent emotional abuse.
"Hey can I see that?"
"No"
"Its cause I'm gay! Guys this guys a family man!"
Being told no as in being told no
you're blowing up this problem greatly. this doesnt happen enough to the point to justify gay pride not existing or being diminished.
