Like holy stuff you would not believe the steam argument I got into with Planr over this.
You mean the one today that you wouldn't drop even though I told you multiple times I wasn't interested in talking about it anymore? You kept bringing up new stuff and repeatedly insisting your case to me like a broken record just to keep the argument going.

You're probably the most combative and relentless person I've ever met on this game. You remind me of how I acted on StarMade a year ago with Arstotzka. Literally just a month ago you were so buttblistered that I wouldn't use your idea for my ship's combat system that you kept arguing with me on my server and spamming my steam chat about it for three loving days straight after I already told you I had made up my mind.

I'm done dealing with you.

At the very least, review the content as per its objective. Would you like me to criticize your star trek ship because it's not star wars enough?

I'm trying to help you understand.
Even as a comedy/parody film I still feel Block Wars falls kind of flat. Most of the jokes came off to me as really stale or as dragged out way too long and just ended up not being funny. There's many other areas in where the film does far better though, such as the build quality, the 3D scenes (nice work cowboy dude, as usual!), the music/scene audio editing, and the greenscreening (for the most part).

I'm not saying that Block Wars is objectively bad because it's a parody. I just personally don't like it, because it's a parody. I'm mostly disappointed because so far I haven't seen a single serious large sci-fi blockland film since Away at War 2 came out 6 years ago. I'll admit I wasn't following the development of this film very closely, even if at all, up until it was released, so maybe that's my fault, but I am just tired of waiting for a serious blockland film. Sorry if I was a little too hostile with my original post.

At the least, for the next Block Wars movie, please have some more interesting jokes, maybe? Maybe some more abrupt/slapstick jokes as well, instead of simply relying on crude humor and profanity.

I personally think part of the problem is that Blockland is a poor medium for serious content, because the general style of the game is literally parody (of legos). This makes Blockland a great medium for other parody or nonsense content. A lot of attempted serious cinematography for Blockland has a tendency to end up somewhere in particular.

the 3D scenes (nice work cowboy dude, as usual!)

There were no 3D scenes, I did it all in game.

I mean, I think I understand what you're saying, though it's still pretty a hostile thing to say that you were disappointed in a film because it tried to be funny- regardless if you found the humor funny or not. You're still saying that you were to rate this film a 2/5 simply on the merit that a comedy film turned out to be a comedy film.

Furthermore, I say more power to you if you think you can portray a serious film in Blockland, I legitimately would like to see this attempted. The issue I take with that though is that you're somehow lumping my film in with any old goofy blockland video that also tried to be funny. I worked my ass off to try and craft a funny and engaging version of Star War's plot (successful to you or not, I still did) that was both in spirit of the original film while also adding our silly little game's charm to it.

Block Wars from the very beginning has been a comedy, and frankly the fact that you're butthurt no one has tired to make a serious film so you trash talk mine like you've even attempted making one is absurd.

You're entitled to your opinions and humor is subjective, I will not fault you if you didn't find my film funny. But your criticisms past that point are nonsensical and are in no way valid (and I'm speaking as a film critic, not as the creator of this project).

Oh and for the record, I was behind Away at War 2 as much as Darkstar and Comm. Flathead were, or perhaps you chose to ignore that section of the credits. So don't come whining to me about no one making serious enough blockland sci-fi, I already made the serious blockland sci-fi.

Arguably heh my biggest flaw is that, while I usually try to be nice, if I find something that really pisses me off, it often results in a lengthy argument as I bring it up again whenever I think of a new argument or point. I apologize.

As for staying on topic and discussing the movie, some ideas for jokes:
Stormtroopers suddenly breaking into a song and dance number
Humorous asteroid shapes
Yoda is a drug-addled hippie*
A Star Trek away team runs into the Wampa. Everybody but the redshirt dies.
Luke running into the Wampa occurs while skiing

*discussed this one with Cowboy Dude a while back

Also on topic of jokes: I decided I would make an executor star destroyer model just because. Using Swholli's star destroyer model to set scale for accuracy in size.

That shows how large the model should be. I then decided it would be hilarious if the already giant starship was made much larger then it actually was.

That you see is the outline for how large the model is going to be for the "super" super star destroyer is going to be. Hell I might do both and we can have that in the film. Like it introduces the fleet of star destroyers. Then it shows the super star destroyer casting a shadow over them, then that is repeated a second time for comical effect with the "super" super star destroyer casting a shadow over the regular super star destroyer.

Dang, beat me to it. Oh well, at least the Executor is in good hands.

Something I remembered was how when we were filming the hangar escape scene, this idea came up: Darth Vader is not a "sith lord" but a "land lord", the battle of hoth is actually an eviction for the rebels rented base.

Setting it up how the empire knew about the echo base for a long time and were unable to attack because the rebels were lawful tenants. The imperial navy was called in to come evict the rebels for not paying rent (insert Rent reference.) It shows Darth Vader in echo base after the rebels have left, and there is a flashback to him giving the keys. Then it flashes forward and he makes a comment about how they really wrecked the place. The entire film with Darth Vader chasing the millennium falcon is actually him attempting to get them to pay property damages.

tatooine is this galaxy's kentucky

this may be the funniest thing i've ever heard

I honestly think if Block Wars were to be an entire non-parody recreation of Star Wars, it would be kinda boring. It would just make me want to watch Star Wars rather than a recreation in a game. I do agree that not all of the jokes were funny, but everyone has a different sense of humor so I value it for that. In my opinion, the video was great and I could really see the long-term effort and work put into it.

First impressions: the sound quality is a bit stuff.

For some reason the compression youtube puts on my videos can occasionally bog down the audio. If you want the fully uncompressed version and don't mind waiting to buffer/download, visit the http://blockwars.swholli.com/videos/bwfinal.htm link for that.

Audio is much better with Swholli's link
