anyone know how long i have to keep working with father before i can help all the rogue synths escape? i already had to betray the bros of steel and now the old man wants me to have a talk with the minutemen

check in with the railroad idk

By the time he wants you to destroy the Railroad, then you get the option, I believe.
BoS have to have been wiped out by the Railroad first.

is it me or does the minigun just suck stuff
even with maxed heavy gunner i feel like i do more damage with my single-shot laser rifle than a minigun

there's a mod that ups the damage by 50% i think

the tri-barrel version, right? i got that and it still blows, taking way too long to kill anything that isn't a raider

i mean mod as in download mod

Yeah, the damage is really low on the basegun, at just 8 damage. And while it's got a high fire-rate, it has awful accuracy, so most of your attacks just don't hit at a mid-long range.
If you have top Heavy Gunner you still only do 16 damage per hit, which is less than some assault rifles, and less accurate.

ANd if you upgrade it to Tri-Barrel, it gains +3 damage, giving you 11 (or 22 with top Heavy Gunner), but the fire-rate actually drops (with a slight increase in accuracy). Possibly making it a less effective gun than before.

Whereas the Gatling Laser can do a base damage of 14 (doubled to 28), and has a fire-rate of 272.
It can then be upgraded twice to get a bonus of 52 damage, giving you 66 total (or 132 doubled).

The Minigun was basically nerfed in order for it to feature early on in the game.
It made for a great moment to fight the Deathclaw in Concord with Power Armor and a Minigun, but you get that weapon so so early that it would be overpowered if its damage was realistic.

it annoys me how they still use 5mm as a legit cartridge alongside 5.56

like what is the real-life counterpart to this 5mm then, .22lr? why chamber a minigun in something so impractical and dirty lol

I would have preferred if they gave you like a special variant of the minigun with ass damage instead of making the minigun just have ass damage.

just give it a mod: "rusted receiver" and require gun nut 2 or 3 or something to get the standard receiver or some stuff

That would be a better solution to the issue of having the minigun too early.

It sucks especially given there are only a handful of non-explosive Heavy Guns in the game, and I don't think they're all that accessible/useful.
Minigun is just really weak.
Flamer is too short a range for most instances.
Gatling Laser can be difficult to come across, and to fuel, at lower levels.
Broadsider requires you to complete a quest, and then its ammo is quite sparse, and it's a slow weapon to use.
Plasma Thrower is a stronger Flamer, with similar range, and a less common ammo source than the Flamer.

A shame, given how much I love carrying a heavy weapon in my power armor while strolling through the Glowing Sea.

Broadsider requires you to complete a quest
that questline was its own reward though

the flamer is wonderful in this game, the default receiver does decent damage while having the best range so far out of any flamer in the 3d games, but holy stuff the ammo is hard to come across due to merchants only selling ~100 at a time and there being next to no flamer-wielding opponents outside of the forged

It was brilliant.

I'll have to consider giving it a longer go.
I didn't really get on with it, and it was just silly when I gave it to my companion to use.

I used to sell all the flamer ammo I picked up because I didn't use it.
