Was there actually anything wrong with what i said?

I don't understand how not directly losing resources when attacked makes settlements useless.

Because there is no point in spending all these resources to defend them and there is no point in giving settlers better guns and armor.

The whole concept of having a settlement to defend makes it useless.

No, its who you're saying it to

I don't think you understand what most people use settlements for.

I don't care for Settlers/Settlements at all; I only do two things with Settlements.

1) Scrap everything I possibly can and then haul the resources back to my main base. Any weapons or amour with a value of 100+ caps are sold, everything else is scrapped for materials (unless if scrapping produces no materials or items can't be scrapped, then I sell). Only Nuka-Colas, Purified/Dirty Water, RadAways, Stimpacks, Mysterious Syrums and Robot Medpacks are kept, all other aid items are sold.
2) Use Graygarden's robotic workforce to keep producing the corn and mutfruit which I need for Vegetable Starch (which is worth 5 adhesive a piece).

I need the materials for my army of power armour which I'm going to show off later on.

Settlers can die?

has a mortal option. if you use it be sure to give your provisioners great armor and mad firepower

And I use settlements to collect resources and store my crap.

The point why am I wasting money on defenses when there is no point in defending? No challenge, no strategy, etc.

Settlers can die in the base game.

I'll wait till the geck comes out. I'm not going to see advanced mods until it does.

Settlers can die in the base game.
from anything? since when?

They can't if you are in the settlement during the time of attack.

Metal gear solid knew how to actually make bases hard.

76 hours in. I stumbled on a place called "General Atomics Galleria" on my question to unlock every map marker. The guide pointed out that the characters there were supposed to be friendly, but for whatever reason only 1 Mister Handy was friendly so I had to cut them all down (and the friendly one turned hostile when Ada thought friendly fire would be fun during a live-fire demonstration of the Mister Gutsy range).

It was too late when I realised there was a terminal to reset all the bots and make them friendly; I'd already cut them to metal scraps. Reading through multiple forums and the Wikia page, apparently the instant-hostility is actually a bug which can be caused by use of the Targeting HUD, but I haven't had that on any of my gear for many, many hours, and certainly nowhere near these bots. It's possible that Ada triggered a fight when we arrived and they all got triggered, but I'm not 100%.

EDIT: Ada has become an ultimate anti-son-of-a-bitch machine, but because she has Sentry Bot legs/wheels, she frequently gets stuck in all kinds of geometry and even launches herself/other characters into space. Thanks to her rockets and the "blue spiral of pissing off people", she frequently hits friendlies and gets me in trouble. But gosh darn is she one hell of a saviour for taking out Deathclaws and also carrying lots of weight.

the best kind of glitches lmao, love the moniker 'anti-son-of-a-bitch machine' as well

well shoot i already knew that, but that's lame so my mod suggestion is still valid

I believe I get attacked once every 3 game days. It's incredibly anti climatic. 3 bad guys show up out of nowhere, I lose no resources and no settlers die.

Fights lasts less than 3 minutes.

When I'm trying to hold my own base in a game like DayZ I get attacked every 5 minutes. I know there is a difference between AI and players but still, the time between attacks needs to be lowered.
