The moderator bot is very ban happy however:

lmao how did piber even get banned for that

To be honest, the whole discrimination thing should be removed from GlassBot entirely.

As I've said before...

Message not showing up but also without punishment > message showing up and punishing for it

Even still, it's oversensitive.

I just want to report a bug or something: Sometimes I crash when accepting friend requests on Blockland Glass.
The friend request is accepted(the friend is on my friend list when starting up Blockland again), however it doesn't say anything but crash me when I accept, not sure about decline.

I had a similar crash and have reported it. I've just recently made a pull request and hopefully it should fix the issue. It worked for me at least.

Edit: And it was just approved. Awaiting for next released version to pop up.

McTwist's PR has been merged hopefully fixing the issue (if not, we'll re-open the issue on GitHub again and continue to investigate).
will try and test this extensively for the next update, although I can't say I have ever experienced it myself so it's bizarre that only some users seem to get it.

we have already stated why this exists, GlassBot won't bother you if you don't bother it by purposefully provoking it, that means not using any discriminatory words, not using all caps and not spamming the chat - it's pretty simple - GlassBot should not intrude upon normal conversation, and I'd like to remind everyone that you can talk to your friends via DM however you want: GlassBot doesn't monitor anything but public chatrooms.

Even still, it's oversensitive.

sorry piber20.
that is an error; we'll have it fixed within a day or two, quite possibly tonight.

If you don't mind, I do have some suggestions for the chat moderation. Why don't you do what blockland's default chat does? Have a flood protection that just stops you from chatting for 5 seconds, and perhaps something like an etard list that just doesnt send the message if it detects an etard word in there. Maybe throw in a twitch style slow-mode. In any case, I'm shocked at how much I've seen the service improved, and I apoligize for doubting you guys before. Just... need to clean up the website or something lol.

blah.
fine - we will have another discussion on how GlassBot handles these things, most likely in favor of blocking it before it's sent and having moderators ban people who decide to bypass it intentionally.

I have thought about a Twitch style slow-mode before and I like it.

Wish you would allow music so I wouldn't need to throw in the musicless version of my gamemode.

hosting copyrighted music on our own servers is concerning.

It's not - as long as you don't have an approval process for it, and delete copyrighted files on request.

Users are liable for their uploads, not the hosting service

Imo moderation shouldn't fall to a bot

you should get real administration, they're more reliable

I think a bot works fine for the most part it just needs a bit of improvement. I've noticed this stuff:
People get warned for caps way too easily, just a couple words in caps trigger it.
The fact that you can't say discrimination words and such should be written somewhere because it's a norm for the internet and users are surprised that they can't.
Sending chat messages too fast should be blocked.
Sending only emotes should be blocked, and there needs to be a check for empty emotes (pretty sure this is on the to-do list)

I also think that if rules are clearly displayed, users should be warned (and their messages should be blocked) before they're even sent to avoid this kind of stuff.

if you want a caps filter then you should either do it the way pecon does it--if more than half the characters in a message above five characters are caps, it mutes you--or just make it so it changes your message to lowercase

though there really should be a box in the lower right corner or somethin saying the rules of the server, or a message at the top saying "Type '/rules' to see the rules of this server!"

Alright, so there's a few points I'd like to address.

First off, Blockland is largely a kids game. Many of the older members here have either been here for a long time or were brought in by friends, I believe it's rare that an adult goes out and just buys this game. So, since we can categorize Blockland as for the most part a kids game, I'd like to avoid those sort of discriminatory terms in a public chatroom. My personal belief is that there's better way to say things and you don't need to use that terminology, but I understand that's unfortunately not a shared belief. For this reason, you're still able to say whatever you want in direct messages. We have no interest what users do and we're not trying to censor anyone, however it's not appropriate to foster that language and behavior in the public chatroom of a game full of children. Discrimination filtering is not going away.

We've had some internal debate about the best way to go about handling this, of course. I've stood by a reactive system (letting the message go through and then handling it) as opposed to a proactive system for most of this. If someone's intention is to use discriminatory language, a popup saying "You can't say that!" won't stop them. They'll repeatedly try different permutations until the message goes through. However, if we allow the message to go through and then apply the 5 minute ban, the same damage has been done but we were able to catch it and stop it. Hard filters just offer a (not so difficult) challenge to work around.

GlassBot isn't meant to be a substitute for actual moderators, but instead just to aid some trivial cases. We can't expect moderators to sit around watching a not-so-active chat 24/7. Typically if you're running Blockland, you're doing so to play the game and not to babysit some indecent people in a chatroom. There's also only a small handful of people that I'd consider responsible enough to moderate, and those players coincidentally rarely actually play Blockland. Moderation does not fall to a bot, a bot just takes care of the easy cases.

We do have a rules command. A server update was issued yesterday with some adjusted rules and thresholds for GlassBot.

A summary of what GlassBot does:
  • GlassBot issues warnings. First warning is a 5 second mute, second is 30, third is 60, fourth is a kick, and everything past 5 warnings is exponentially increasing ban times. Warnings decay over time.
  • Any message that is longer than 5 characters and more than 75% caps is considered yelling
  • Any word that is more than 60% 80% similar to a discriminatory word is considered a discriminatory word. (Similar meaning that the sent word fully contains a discriminatory word from a list we've put in)
  • Sending more than 5 messages in a 5 second span receives a "typing too fast" warning
  • Repeating the same message 3 times in the past 5 messages within 60 seconds receives a "stop repeating yourself" warning

We've tweaked these since the launch of Glass Live and these seem to be the most appropriate values thus far. I'm open to some more tweaks given justification, but really these are simple guidelines for a chatroom. Any normal conversation should not be impeded by any of these limitations, and if the way you communicate does you may wish to revise how you talk to people.

hey what'll be added in glass 4.2.0?

We've passed 100,000 downloads.

hey what'll be added in glass 4.2.0?
Big secret

delete Support_Preferences, redownload glass off the official website and try again.
When I Try to edit prefs as the host, it Says i don't have permission.
I was getting this problem, and discovered that the Support_Preferences Glass adds seems corrupt. 7zip could't open it and Blockland's console printed this error:
Code: [Select]
Error opening zip (Add-Ons/Support_Preferences.zip), need to handle this better...
After downloading Preferences found in Server Mods from the glass overlay and restarting blockland, it seems to be working now.

lmao how did piber even get banned for that
I discovered later that "night" was what bans. At that moment I thought saying americas banned me. Maybe "night" is too close to a certain discriminatory term? (this was probably already dealt with since that)

hosting copyrighted music on our own servers is concerning.
Nearly every add-on brings this risk. Sounds taken from a big game, models ported from half-life into bricks, etc. If sites like Nexus Mods can do stuff like this without being shut down (the joker being added to ncr prison in fallout new vegas with voice lines taken from big movies), I'm sure Blockland Glass can too. Perhaps add a reporting function (if it isnt there already) and add an option for copyright holders to request a takedown.

The site could also use a footer with copyright information and some links.
