it would be interesting to see a medieval themed city rpg. players could become soldiers and fight other players of a neighboring city.

i'd be down for a dank ass city rpg

so first off if you're making a city rpg you're gonna want to keep the core grind to the top mechanics as they've proven popular many times but also exceedingly flawed. the core problem is grinding up is tedious and the end goal of the grind is to grief the hell out of everyone when you eventually get a spawn with a gun job which is loving horrendous. you're going to want to diversify jobs by adding more mechanics and make the end goal something other than the aforementioned. not a clue on what you can actually add right now you'll have to soul search for that one
As starting jobs you actually start out with a lot of money. If you screwed up you can refund your education if you have only 1 level in that type of workforce. You can be a miner that starts off tough but eventually you can get more and more money as you keep mining, you can create new pickaxes using the ore you mined or you can sell the ore for something else. Pickaxes are also valuable so you can sell them too. This is the easiest way to get money but there are a few twists before getting the easy money, like any other job. Miners never have a paycheck because the ores are what makes money. They have to actually work up to get more money by doing more tasks. Exclusively you can craft certain weapons that require such ores, and you can sell these weapons to other people that want them, but you must have the quantity of that item or you cannot sell it. Arm dealers will also have a limited amount of weapons because the miners can also sell weapons that they crafted, they are unable to sell anything else. The miners can sell ore so they can make more profit off of it. Anyone is allowed to craft weapons as long as they have the correct materials for them. There will be bots that are merchants that will have materials that you need to create weapons, but they have a certain amount of materials per day (they restock the next day). You cannot craft weapons with just a few ores you mined. This is some creativity to make the miner job more fun.

get rid of banks and just make players drop a portion of their cash on death. banks cause unnecessary admin strain and are basically unmanageable unless someone is watching 24/7
I was thinking of this as 'killing' in the bank could cause tons of problems. A few solutions to this is creating a trigger zone with a timeout so people can't camp in the zone or just re-enter it so they can't get killed. I may make this a pref to decide whether you should either store all money on a player or store it in a bank for everyone but there will be limits when you are at the bank. I hate making stupid rules so I try to solve them with code.

get rid of paying dems but make it so they are lost far more rapidly than they currently are. the whole police station and paying dems administration is a problem for the same reason bank killings are.
Paying dems are literally the most dumbest thing ever but I made them as a pref in case a host might actually want it. As the same situation with the bank, it will also have a zone with a timer so they cannot just camp in there. They are invulnerable and cannot be jailed for that certain amount of time. When people spawn they do have jail immunity so they have enough time to run away or try to pay dems if it is available.

Honestly if you're going to be a criminal you should just face what's going to happen to you and deal with it

get rid of permanent records. they are a ridiculous loving restriction and the worst possible attempt to solve the crime being the top goal problem
Yeah I was thinking about removing permanent records as some cops could lose their record on accident. I could make a probation system if it happens more than a few times where they cannot be a cop for x days. The warnings will go away after a certain amount of days.

make it so jailed people are able to walk around, talk to people, do stuff, and generally behave like normal players that are unable to pick up weaponry. the worst part of jail is easily the social isolation
I was thinking of doing this as 'community service' and they cannot pick up weapons or buy weapons, but can do everything else. Of course if they do a genocide they will be put into jail from 2 hours to a few days (in-game) and then go into community service to serve the rest of the time.

remove hunger. it is an aborted attempt to create an economy and does nothing other than force players to respawn every now and then.
I may just add 'food stamps' (at least $3000) as a start because the hunger system will have benefits. If they run out of food stamps, that sucks, but they should already have tons of money to spend by now. On my CityRPG hunger actually takes longer to go down than other CityRPGs.

make it so there is some sort of money sink that is more effective than education and prestige. generally city rpgs are flooded with cash after the first day or so when the drug farms get going.
Definitely, I'll think of something on this

make drugs less of a huge loving investment and less impossible to bust. drugs right now are the #1 moneymaker and a drug base is effectively invincible. this requires frequent administration checks to make sure that attackers can actually break in normally. just let people buy c4 or something that fakekills bricks so that no base is safe. if drugs were piss easy to baton nobody would buy drugs because of the insane costs so you'll have to reduce drug planting prices alongside this.
Drugs are the lowest priority and might even be the last thing I'll even do (possible not even implement drugs). This is a very good idea and I will keep this in mind.

make the mechanics other than crime less of a loving chore. mining and farming are the most tedious stuff ever and forcing people to mine/farm until they can get a real job ie cop is loving obnoxious. no idea how to make them more exciting but still
As I have said you get tons of money to start out with so you can basically begin with any job.
Since crime 'jobs' require 0 education because it makes no sense to put education in them, you need tons of experience instead.

remove the wait time for education levels. honestly why are they even here
It's one of those "stay here longer and love our server", I will disable waiting unless I find a way to actually make it interesting. This will be a pref for other people in the future.

if you want to go balls out you can try to add an actual economy for guns/food. this will probably require adding a stuffload of guis because it did in suburbia which according to gyt was hell and will probably not work too well with linear progression plus people will need a client but you can probably think of something
I could somewhat require a GUI but at the same time I could use a centerprint menu system. I might make a GUI for people that are interested in easier interfaces but they do not need the GUI to change stuff.

its come to my attention that a significant amount of players want a city rpg grindfest that lacks the obnoxiousness of city rpg so thats what im going for here. forget city rpg but best of luck to you
I understand that me making this CityRPG will always create some kind of cluster. CityRPGs often lack administration and use the same gamemode after being told it's broken but they host it anyways for population/donations or whatever their goal is. CityRPGs use tons of CPU. According to the my CityRPG's use of the CPU, it is low, and I am very proud of this.

My goal here is to make another option for everyone to host a CityRPG that has tons of prefs to completely change the way the game works.



On a side note, these are just ideas that I either agreed or made up that can be implemented at some point. I will update the topic eventually with these ideas included.

One idea I have is lot-assigned money
basically what this means is you can dump some of your money on your lot and use it for various purposes, like casino payouts or whatever
heck you can set up automated paychecks with stuff like that and give people actual stuff to do in your lot even when you're offline.

Dying will take money from your bank account, max is $2500 and the lowest is $0, depends on how much you have.
Can this be modified or disabled in the admin GUI?
I think that people going around and randomly killing people or sniping from nearly unreachable towers would ruin people.

Maybe, I'll think of a few solutions to certain scenarios that can happen.



Other news, I might host the server sometime this weekend (got medical issues going on) next weekend but it will be locked because it is definitely not ready yet. The password will be in the topic when it is ready.

I made a few edits to my post to show that anyone is welcome but I don't want many people to join so a password should help keep some people out
