Wolfenstein 3D pretty much invented FPS games

While fallout 3 and skyrim were good, They didn't change the industry at all. Neither did Ark or Rust.

Fair enough Ark might not, but Rust definitely has influenced survival games.

almost every new game is 3D and I think the majority of them probably don't have anything like that

Aiming down sights, readying up bows, Monster hunter L trigger thing, fallout slow time time gazorp, etc. are all pretty much direct results of z-targeting, or just holding down a button to aim at something to make 3D space much easier to navigate around while fighting nasties.
