Author Topic: How do we force darkness on people without shaders?  (Read 50113 times)

this
on my old comp it didn't even work so it didn't matter. and on that i lagged at 20k bricks

although yes, with any decent modern computer you shouldn't have issues, not everyone is tech-savvy enough or wants to pick a good computer based around how well it would perform when running blockland. and then there are the preteens/teens who don't have the $$ or the freedom to choose what computers they can use.
The performance of minimum compared to off seems to vary highly.
For me and many other people, minimum (as a reminder, this setting does not have shadows) run much much faster than the off setting.
But there has been a number of people who run poorly on minimum.

It lags so much when i have shaders on, i probably need to get a desktop instead of this laptop.

I think you're forgetting that a lot of people (like me) specifically turn off shaders if it gets dark because we KNOW it makes things brighter.
The problem (if you can call it that) is a lot more widespread than you think

If someone really wanted to force the scene to be brighter even with shaders, they could change their desktop color settings and increase the brightness. There would be no way to detect this either as far as I know.

And that's why it should be removed.

Pretty much noone. Everyone can run minimum.
ok can you stop being stupid no they can't

If shaders were server-sided

That would be impossible.

Not really, you could write custom shaders for your server and have people download them automatically when they join.

Well then that would be client-sided too. If shaders were STRICTLY server-sided, the client wouldn't even be able to use them; the client wouldn't have the support for them.

So does anyone else know what can be done besides negative light bricks?

Nothing on my mind, apart from making a 'server addon' that essentially copies default shaders and makes everything have max shaders (which is a very dumb idea, considering that my game crashes at max shaders), which I believe could be possible with torque.

you could make black fog to limit their sight i think???

Environment settings > view distance
It's less fog than it is just a crappy-looking wall of black
no racism intended i swear
