All death threats aside, the biggest advice and the most important thing you can ever do that will make you a greater player
is looking at your map.
Seriously, vision (What your team can see as a team) is the most important thing in league of legends. Placing wards is important because it increased the vision your team has on the map, meaning you can see far more than before. This lets you know when an enemy champion is arriving, or when you can take advantage of their team's position in order to surprise the enemy. Knowing where the enemy is will greatly enhance the things you can do, be it running away when necessary, or going in to strike when the enemy has a teammate on the other side of the map (Turning a 5v5 into a 5v4)
For this reason, I'd say pick up Twisted Fate as a champion. He's super cheap, and a pretty straightforward champion who offers several concepts that are useful for a beginner.
His Passive grants extra gold upon killing an enemy unit. This should get you into the habit of focusing on Last Hitting first to generate as much gold as possible, instead of going for kills, which is far less reliable than the stream of minions.
His Q is a skillshot which is on the slower side of skillshots, learning to land it teaches you a bit about travel time and needing to be able to predict and read your enemy, as actually landing it is a part of his combo.
His W is a skill that proves entirely situation and deals with situation evaluation. Each card has a different use in different situations, it's up to you as the player to use your judgement on which will prove the best usage at the time.
The Blue Card regends mana and does the most damage out of any card. For this reason, it's a highly useful tool in lane in order to stay filled with mana, and it's super useful for finishing off harder targets (Such as the canon minion.) When pushing, it proves extra practical as a method of destroying a tower due to the slightly higher damage, take what you can get.
The Red Card does its damage in an AoE. This means it does more overall damage from the other cards, as it does its damage over an area to all targets as opposed to Single Target (Blue and Gold cards) and slows. This makes it more useful for clearing out a wave (Such as one that is pushing a tower). Other than that, the card is more or less useless in lane, and pretty useless in a Team Fight (Just Gold Card something instead).
The Gold Card is probably the key card in TF's W set. Upon landing it, whatever you decided to attack it with will be stunned. This gives you the chance to follow up with a few Auto Attacks, and a quick burst from your Q in order to dish out damage. The problem with using a Gold card above a blue one, is that it does not refund mana, meaning that if you persist with the Gold Card, Auto, Q combo, you will run out of mana quickly. It will be important to cycle between the cards on TF and maintain balance in order to stay healthy in lane. The Gold Card also is a super helpful tool for junglers looking to gank, any decent jungler will be able to follow up on a gank with a gold carded target. Keep in mind, enemies are generally weary about Gold Cards and will back off, it's up to you to find the perfect of window of opportunity to strike them with one.
Twisted Fate's E is a double passive. The first passive is extra attack speed, it just helps throwing in some AA's during combos and also with making up for missing a Last Hit on a minion. The second passive is a damage burst on the fourth auto-attack or card that you land. This teaches you about champions and windows of opportunity. Let's say for example, you have 3 stacks on your passive. A really good combo would be to Gold Card (Bringing you to the fourth stack), Q them (You can't miss a still target), and Auto them once more (Since you're at 4 stacks, you apply the burst damage). You just effortlessly did a lot of damage by watching closely for your stack amount on TF. Taking the chance when you have it is an important skill, risks all come with rewards. If you want to try champs who offer large amounts of power during their windows of opportunity, give Ryze, Gnar, and Darius a shot. If you want me to explain them just ask.
Twisted Fate's R is what ties back into the discussion about vision earlier. His R reveals every champion on the map, and upon casting it again, will teleport him to wherever he can inside of his range (It's massive, pretty much anywhere on the map from small footwark from midlane.) His R grants a ton of vision, you now know anywhere and everywhere a champion is on the map, it is super important that you keep your eye on the map at this time. His second cast is the deal stealer. Just by walking a little bit down from mid lane, he's able to teleport down to botlane, changing it from a 2v2 into a 3v2. You can only know the right moment to come in by
checking your map. His ult is the ultimate tool for disciplining your map awareness, as when used during the right situation, can turn the tide of a fight in your team's favor. Squandering it over something dumb will leave your team without some key vision and an element of surprise, learning to manage it and watching the map will make you all the better at awareness and playing league.
