the more I look at this coup, the more it looks like a false flag
not only did coup forces attack at a strange hour (near midnight), a strange time (the head of state they were trying to overthrow was on vacation away from where the coup was happening, so they couldn't capture him), and a strange way (they announced on television a coup was underway and told civilians to stay indoors. if you're performing a coup, most of the time, you don't let anyone else know until it's already over), they also attacked in an incredibly reserved and piecemeal fashion.
I can understand not firing on the people you're trying to protect, but why would so little soldiers take part in this coup? and in such a strange frontline with such disorganized motives? turkey is a historically militant nation which takes pride in its army (something like ~60% of its military is made up of volunteers/conscripts), so for so little to take part (around 2000 or so) is nothing short of suspicious. for reference, the number of soldiers involved in the coup accounts for roughly 0.6% of turkey's total military size--clearly not enough to successfully carry out a coup and thus begging the question why they even bothered to try in the first place.
to me, this was a reichstag fire by erdogan to attain emergency powers. and by god did it work
